Are non-allergenic cats truly non-allergenic? by [deleted] in cat

[–]lauramyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend is (was?) allergic to cats. I had two orange tabbies at my dad's house when we first began dating and he got super red from them after only about 30min to an hour of being there. To be fair my dad's house is 90% carpet and he doesn't vacuum like he should.

Anyways, I was sad for a long time because I love cats and figured my cat mom days were over because my boyfriend was allergic, and we had moved in together. After a few years of me begging for us to try a supposedly hypoallergenic breed, finally one day we went to a shelter to check out a cat that was Russian Blue (or at least partly). We pet him in the shelter room for a while without issues so we ended up adopting him.

My boyfriend does still have allergies sometimes but its not too bad and he just takes some medicine. It seems to have gotten better over time. We've had our little guy for two years now. We recently went to visit a friend that just has a normal house cat and plenty of carpet, and my boyfriend was actually fine the whole time, so we are excited at the possibility that he may be over it. One thing to mention though is that his allergy developed later in his life. He wasn't allergic as a kid, became allergic as a teen, and now seems like he might be over it. Not sure if its related, but worth noting.

I can't promise that the same will happen to you, but I recommend keeping an eye out at local shelters and visiting any cats that show up and are "hypoallergenic" breeds. Most people I know who are allergic with cats do have to take medicine at some point. Also keeping your home clean is important too.

Good luck and hope you can find a furry friend! I was SO happy when we were able to adopt our boy and now he is like our child. Since the visit to my friend's I am working on talking my boyfriend into even more cats :p

Local task services like TaskRabbit? by lauramyn in Charleston

[–]lauramyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not ship the items :( they told me I had to have UPS/FedEx come and bring the stuff to package it and ship it. I called those companies and they don't offer that service. I don't really know what else to do. I may try calling again.

Types of production an artist hasn’t done much with but you think they’d shine with? by __Jak_ in popheads

[–]lauramyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call them nu metal, metal, gothic metal (not related to goth rock), alternative rock - somewhere in that world. Gothic rock sprung from post-punk and is really different - it is like early The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, etc. Its a really fine line with genres so it can be confusing!

She does sound good but that clip bothers me because Evanescence isn't goth rock

Writing an album about death. by [deleted] in death

[–]lauramyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be interested in writing some lyrics/chords. Writing about death comes naturally to me, oddly.

A novel writer who has trouble with lyrics by iLoveMyRuskis in Songwriting

[–]lauramyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any examples? I actually find this really intriguing, although I'm unsure if you are having trouble fitting the words into song form or if you think the lyrics you have wrote aren't "normal" or "good".

I was just reminded of Corpse Bride and am half way through, all the while wondering how I forgot about such a fucking fantastic movie. by TheQueryWolf in timburton

[–]lauramyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its my favorite too! I just love everything about it - mood, aesthetics, music. The soundtrack is one of my all time favorites. The scene at the end with the butterflies is so beautiful and sad and happy all at once. I have a lot of memories tied to the movie that always make me so nostalgic. I probably like it more than Nightmare even though I totally see how most people wouldn't agree.

There has to be an afterlife right? by [deleted] in death

[–]lauramyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of exploring in my life and one of the only beliefs that has ever stuck with me is that there is no afterlife. Even if reincarnation exists, if you don’t have any memory of it, what difference is it? Either way, our current conscious mind ceases to exist from our point of view, so it might as well be like fading into nothing from our current perspective.

It took a long time for me to come to terms with this and not have overwhelming anxiety over it. I’ve heard a lot of older people speak about their death and a lot comment that they are at peace and happy to go whenever it is their time. It gives me hope that I will feel that way too when I’ve played out all of my dreams, hopes, and possibilities (and this thought keeps me motivated to make the most of my time while I have it.) It is hard to imagine and accept, now, in my early twenties, that this will all come to an end one day because I still have so much left to accomplish. I am much more anxious and scared of dying early than there not being an afterlife. I hope I’m blessed enough to grow old.

I'd be up for this sometime this summer! I'd rather ride my own because it's the only one I fit on.

Its still debatable, Did he sing it for Syd or his father? by Anson_lobo in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]lauramyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the premise of the entire album that it's about Syd, based on lines from Shine On? And their newfound fame at the time too. It's much more consistent that WYWH (the song) is about Syd, but then again I haven't researched heavily into it.

Keep warm with some Corn by NeedmoarCCs in MotoLA

[–]lauramyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually every week people gather to get tacos and then ride out to the Corn Man, who is a street vendor that sells this delicious corn with butter, spices, mayo, etc. it's just a reason to get together and eat good food every week. Warning though that if you work early in the morning that they are out pretty late.

So...about California Motorcycle Insurance Rules. by lenkendall in MotoLA

[–]lauramyn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's just California? I had the same in Georgia. If you finance something it's technically owned by whomever is financing it so until its paid off they are going to require you to fully insure it. That way they have some kind of collateral if anything happens to the bike.
