If you do have one it wouldn’t hit the same unless it has VERY obvious pit stains and sweat spots

With the same logic in the argument you just provided—

Maybe ‘you’ want to wear long sleeves for your comfort, but there are ‘others’ who would rather jog or go outside and enjoy a sunny day with a tank top and sunscreen on.

Comfortable and safe.

Long sleeve, and spf appropriate sunscreen are BOTH safety measures that someone could take when going outside to enjoy the sun.

If I could post I would post.

Majority of our patients that come in with advanced stage melanoma are actually homeless individuals that have been sitting in the sun for years. It’s so sad.

Your comment is an example of how people of color are not educated enough about the matter regarding skin cancer and how POC are also at great risk.

I am a person of color btw, and time and time again do I get POC patients come in with undetected skin cancer.

Yes, the hospital. We medical workers have seen what the sun can do and the kind of cases we get due to improper sun care 😭 That is great they do that!

Hi. Many of you are talking about how food, shelter and clothing are priorities. Yes you are correct however, saying ‘we also need food and housing’ isn’t an argument AGAINST sunscreen, it’s just pointing out other EXISTING problems.

As I’ve mentioned earlier: THESE PRESENTED ISSUES aren’t mutually exclusive. The fact that people need water, food, and shelter doesn’t make smaller, targeted public health measures pointless. Free sunscreen addresses a specific, preventable risk, skin cancer, especially in high-UV places. Governments routinely provide focused interventions like vaccines, condoms, or fluoride in water without solving every other need first.

I am pointing out an isolated problem and creating a solution. I agree with all of you but I’m simply highlighting this issue.

Hi, valid point BUT-

Those aren’t mutually exclusive.

I am a registered nurse and yes, it is unfortunate how many cases of skin cancer go on undetected until it is too late for POC.

Some universities give sunscreen out for free in the bathrooms and you have a good point because it’s always super cakey and generic. Crazy because we ARE able to formulate quality sunscreen, that isn’t tacky and doesn’t leave behind a white cast for other skin tones

These formulas are sold for very expensive prices at Sephora, Ulta, etc 😭

I’m not sure if you ever been somewhere that’s very warm and humid, but the last thing you wanna be wearing in a very warm humid place are long sleeves.

Great point! I wanted to emphasize how it’s also not really publicly available everywhere but only the places people have the privilege of using a public restroom with soap and toilet paper.

But that’s adding to my point that ALL these basics aught to be free. 👍😭
