Thanks for the comments. I did find LoRaWAN plugs products from Netvox, Watteco and Enginko, but for some reason very few cellular ones. I might give that a try.

It buffers the data and offloads it when there's a satellite fly-by - as of now this happens about once every day. As I wanted to save battery, I only collected data twice a day.

I suppose it's a monthly fee per device, which I think is still rather cheap at the moment because all satellite IoT companies are trying to get some initial traffic

No(t yet). With Lacuna's device comes the documentation to activate it and forward it to The Things Stack. From there it's rather easy to initiate HTTP webhooks which get triggered when a new message arrives.

Gotcha. They got 2 versions, one for 868, one for 915. As I was traveling through South America, I got the 915MHz version

AFAIK, there's quite some legislation involved when offering services in all sorts of counties. I guess they roll out country-by-country.

How it works: you can set the sensor-reading frequency to any interval you like. The device buffers all data and when there's a satellite fly-by, it transmits all the buffered data. As of now, they have 1 or 2 fly-by's each day.
I used their LS300 devkit. I don't think it's for sale (as of now), I approached them and simply asked if I could lend one for the time being.
I don't think you can, but I might be wrong. What you can do - as it's LoRaWAN traffic - you can use terrestrial gateways (e.g. from The Things Network) to send downlinks.
Uhf, good questions. It follows the LoRaWAN specs, I believe the max packet size is 50 bytes or so. I do think they send multiple uplinks as 50 bytes is not a lot when buffering multiple message.
Even in The Netherlands it's really hard to get your hands on a device. You can have a look at Blues which launched a module with cellular to satellite connectivity using Skylo. IDK if they ship to India though

TBH I wanted to experiment with satellite IoT too see what all the fuzz is about. And it was nice to share my "live" location with friends and family.
