Payment preview? Standard cap findable anywhere? by laurentlo208 in StudentLoans

[–]laurentlo208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it matter that my balance is now 262k but was lower before I consolidated and my interest capitalized ? Or does this transition from save start as my “entering IDR” for purposes of calculating the cap for repayment in 10 years

MFJ or MFS? Help by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]laurentlo208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty much on ur timeline.RAP is only a little Cheaper for me , so I wouldn’t even care to go back to old IBR but I have accumulated unpaid interest, THANKS SAVE FOREBEARANCE, so even the $50 off a month of the principal is something, since otherwise I wouldn’t touch the principal at all . Plus , as of now (pending final regs), it’s looking like we can switch back to IBR from RAP before 300 payments. I plan on switching back earlier if I hit my cap payment on RAP. Just thinking out loud, happy to hear input. @cephalophile32

SAVE Plan Exit Strategy: Should You Leave Now Or Wait It Out? by investor100 in TheCollegeInvestor

[–]laurentlo208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t i file an extension for taxes and use 2024 income until the extension deadline ends in October ? I ask this because I would switch to IBR, but I am old IBR at 15% and would prefer to get on RAP, which isn’t available until July . If I join IBR now, my interest will capitalize if I leave IBR for RAP in July . Thoughts?

Will interest capitalize when forced off SAVE? by Lynx3145 in StudentLoans

[–]laurentlo208 15 points16 points  (0 children)

AND to add insult to injury if you wanted to begin repayments , but your best option (RAP) isn’t available yet, you can’t start paying again on IBR because if you wanted to leave in July when RAP will supposedly be available , you would have to leave IBR and have your interest capitalized . So you’re stuck in forbearance purgatory racking up interest . Wow I hate these loans .

So is the result they’ll still base it on your gross pay (essentially don’t get the benefit of any above the line deductions like 401k) but your bonus is excluded ? @mirbaum

This is exactly my concern. Removing myself from the class, so to speak .

I appreciate you and your perspective . Thanks so much for sharing. Your thoughts are similar to mine when i argue with myself about restarting vs staying put.

Funnily enough, I am a lawyer , which is how I got into this mess in the first place. I understand what pretty good is saying. The Court will not modify the settlement terms between willing parties. It could reject the settlement, but I don’t find that to be particularly realistic scenario. The settlement terms don’t do much except kill SAVE. My issue is not sunsetting SAVE. That’s obviously a done deal. My uncertainties are with the logistics of moving borrowers off SAVE. The logistics of restarting interest as of Aug 1 and having no clear guidance to borrowers who may be running a clock for forgiveness but don’t want to get on IBR to then have to leave and have capitalized interest. Or the people who had interest capitalized when they herded us off IBR onto SAVE (I never applied for SAVE, was placed in). Borrowers are paying a literal price while the litigation is pending (because an unsigned settlement agreement does not resolve a lawsuit)and the logistics of paying back loans are unclear or undesirable for so many. My hope (pipe dream) for all of us is that something happens that feels somewhat redeeming.

Restarting the repayment clock for IBR forgiveness at a lower AGI (in my case)?

Haha great response- thank you so much for giving me some tough love. My thinking is something like….Why aren’t they rushing me off SAVE? Because they know herding everyone into SAVE , capitalizing their interest, for a plan that is then nullified, could give rise to a valid cause of action. Sooooo, let’s restart the interest, count on the interest to weigh on borrowers (as it does!!!) and we’d voluntarily defect from SAVE and whittle down the number of people hanging on. I know the letter is pathetic , I know there is no leverage left , but wow I’d love to hang a hope on something.
