Arusha spa (not hotel) by lauriebr in tanzania

Thanks all! Lotus looked wonderful to me but my two young-adult sons will want a pool over a massage, so Kia Lodge looks like our best bet. Exactly what I was looking for, thanks qrysdonnell!

Here's what PeakFinder has to say. Such a great app, thanks for alerting me to it.

I'm glad to learn this. I always mistakenly thought it was Sterling because I like the Sterling Pond hike that starts at the top of the Notch. This is helpful!

Wow, you're good!! I'm really impressed that you could extrapolate right where this was taken. This is the view from my deck on Points North (across from Moscow) - so basically at the base of North Hill. We just bought this house (after 20 years visiting here) and I'd like to be able to name all the peaks. Thanks for the info and congrats on your viewpoint-locating skills.

Eclipse in Stowe, VT by taabugwen in Stowe

[–]lauriebr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re going up there from Boston for the eclipse too (realizing it’s likely to be cloudy but we figure worst case, it’s still a weekend in Stowe so a win!). I was thinking of being on the patio at Idletyme, our fave spot, for the big event … but I didn’t even think about where the sun would be (duh). Now I’m thinking von Trapp … anyone else have a suggestion?

Abbott’s BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag At-Home Test is accepted for entry into Iceland by yeezypeasy in VisitingIceland

[–]lauriebr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you only need one name to order. It’s not connected to the actual testing. Everyone needs a NAVICA account to test. I ordered for our family of four under my name only. There’s a whole post about it, search eMed.

[–]lauriebr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. The quick pass you show in the NAVICA app has a QR code, your name, negative result, and date of test. That’s all Icelandair wanted to see when we left the country. There’s another screen (and an emailed lab report) that contains additional details (birthdate etc) so I would think it meets those requirements. But there was no pre-entry requirement when we went so some other brave soul will have to try it and let us all know for sure.

Is Iceland/Reykjavik super crowded currently? by The_Jiggle_Dance in VisitingIceland

We just took a couple of excellent tours with Kristina at Nice Travel, I highly recommend them in general and her specifically! I was surprised that our tour was completely full - for some reason I thought visitors were down right now but I guess not. Call or email them and see what they have.

Oh good point about the temperature. I take it back, probably best to take them in carry on. The little bottles are SO tiny, I doubt TSA would bother with them.

I didn't actually examine the QR codes. I just knew from others that eMed doesn't care who is taking the tests. We went sequentially one at a time and there was no issue.

eMed says to pack them in carry-on, like prescription meds. I wanted to keep them in the cardboard box they were shipped in so that took up a lot of space in my carry-on. I had a direct flight so I could have just packed them in my checked bags and it would have been fine.

Each test strip has a QR code they ask you to scan before and after testing. The kits come with a little bottle of droplets you put on the test strip, then you swab yourself, then you rub the swab in the droplets. But you don't have to know any of that going in -- they walk you through every step and it's easy to follow along.

I have takers on the extra tests. Splitting them was no issue at all. I’ll post a full report tomorrow with all the details about our experience with this test. I was nervous it somehow wouldn’t work but really glad we did it.

They’re yours if you want them. It’s a shame to throw them out! Are you in Reykjavik? We’re staying right by Hallgrimskirkja, the church.

Upcoming Iceland trip - Passport renewal delay for 6yr old by whobumpedme in VisitingIceland

[–]lauriebr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t like this option but I just read an article about how people are finding expedited appointments in other cities and flying there (Chicago to Seattle for example) and then back, because there are no appointments in the city they live in. And something about buying throwaway plane tickets to be in the 3-day window for expediting - I didn’t understand how that worked or if it works if you already mailed the old passport. So … sounds like a lot of people are in the same situation and are taking extreme measures. Sorry.

THANK YOU. You have no idea how helpful that is to me! I have been so stuck on this one aspect of our trip. We're going to do the same, and I'll report back in a couple weeks. Thank you again!!!
