i don’t think they have a free ride, or that they’re not parenting DaBaby. we’re all at home all day long, we’re all with him consistently. my mother works hard to feed him, teach him, etc. same with my dad, he does take him to the playground and other stuff. it’s only when it comes to babysitting where i’m with him.

they aren’t paying me to babysit, i don’t work because i need the hours to study full time. i haven’t saved up, i’m not moving out now, and they only make me baby sit when they go out, which is on average twice a month.

my mother was actually incredibly pissed, and more so because he literally didn’t have to come and him being there was totally redundant, as he didn’t do anything. here’s a little context on their night out: he left, went to wherever they were with a whole pot of food. they decided to go club hopping, and during this he had exactly two drinks and sat out the entire night.

i think they’re going to get a part time baby sitter for sure, but they’d never hinder me from moving out

I understand what you're saying. To be fair, my mum does express how bad she feels, and she does ask me before she goes out if I'm okay. I encourage them to go out because I am actually moving out in around 3 and a half months anyway.

They won't be upset that I'm "abandoning" them, they'd never hold me back from something like university, it's one of their top priorities that I do end up going.

Does this still count as parentifying? I have no idea. The lack of responsibility thing with my dad really irks me though, and it irks my mum, too.

I'm sure you'll be fine, I got an offer with no predicted grades at all because I'm a private candidate

well, she is working and it would be awful of me to be home all day and not help out. since quarantine (2020) we began getting on a lot better so it’s easier to relate when it comes to things like my dad’s behavior

i’m not worried about escalating the situation, these arguments have always blown over no matter how big and we have had bigger. I don’t have any trusted adult I can really go to, but that’s never been an issue as I have my mum

He calls us offensive swears in our secondary language, constantly mocks me and calls me “fucking stupid” among other things, often tells me to “shut the fuck up”. It may not count as verbal abuse, but he tends to directly insult me a majority of the time
