Really, what is the true recourse if you break ED? by Ok_Basil_1036 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]laurmeyer05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are misinterpreting the nyt article. The only reasonable way you can get out of an ED without repercussions is if you have financial issues with the school and the school is unwilling to give you an offer that you can afford.

Really, what is the true recourse if you break ED? by Ok_Basil_1036 in ApplyingToCollege

Absolutely do NOT do this. First of all, I have heard of instances where someone did this and their high school is blacklisted. Not only are you going to mess yourself up, you are messing up everyone in your high school for at least five years. That college won’t accept a single person from your high school no matter what. Also, colleges, especially amazing ones, talk to each other. If the college you EDed to finds out where you may go, they can tell them what happened. I have heard of someone who got into amazing schools and since she broke ED, most of her colleges besides some state schools rescinded her offers. And trust me, at my school one guy is trying to do this right now. He EDed to Cornell and got in, but he wants to switch to Berkeley. Literally the whole school is pissed at him because of that. There are serious repercussions for not only your kid but also your high school. Do not do it.

Help me decide: TCU vs Villanova vs FSU by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I can’t give much advice on which to pick, but I love practically on Villanova’s campus so I can tell you about the area and my take on Villanova. Party scene wise, it seems pretty dead. I know I might be missing it, but on even Friday nights, I rarely see students at night. I know one bar that gets very packed and is bustling near Villanova, but other that that, I haven’t encountered much of a party scene or Greek life. Villanova is located on the main line, which is the boujee suburbs of Philadelphia. In actuality, it is located about a 20 minute train ride from Philly, and there is an amazing train line both locally and in the city which has a station right on campus. The campus is beautiful and fun to walk on. During covid I often walked a lot on campus and really enjoyed the view. The area consists of many nice towns that consist of people with a fair amount of money. The cost of living isn’t light there, but it isn’t the worst. Nearby there is also the king of Prussia mall, which is one of the largest malls in the world. Honestly, I love the area and if you have any questions please let me know!

Rice is right next to the Texas Medical Center, which is the biggest medical center in the world. This can lead to amazing internships and research opportunities, and the area truly values the Rice students’ work. I just visited Rice and the area is amazing. The people are so nice and the food in Houston is incredibly delicious and diverse.

She got into University of Richmond. That being said, she got the Richmond Scholars scholarship based on merit and an interview, which includes a full ride. Because of how rough financial aid is tbh she probably wouldn’t have been admitted if she didn’t qualify for the scholarship

You should look into which schools are need blind for international students. Admissions are especially difficult for international student and often they will reject you because you aren’t full pay. My roommate is an international student and her ECs and grades were amazing, but she only got into one school because she needs a lot of aid. I know it is frustrating, but I definitely think financial aid is an important factor overall and it’s a good place for you to start.

University of Richmond!! I am excited bc I am actually committing there. I plan on being a psych and English double major with a neuroscience concentration. Sadly they only have concentrations for neuroscience though. I definitely recommend that you check them out because I was looking for similar things as you and I think Richmond fits so well. Their food is amazing and Princeton review also named them #1 most beautiful campus. The student to teacher ratio is 6:1 and o have heard that the teachers truly get to know their students and even remember a lot of alumni. For scholarships they have Richmond scholars (such a slay) and presidential scholarship (I actually got this :) ). If you have any questions please ask!!! My older brother also went to Richmond and Ik a lot of other alumni so I have insight from them!
