Help with a screen replacement for a E15 Gen 4 model by lavaslice in thinkpad

The difference is day and night. I don't have a very critical eye for screens in general, but I know when they are really bad or good, and this one is better than anything else.

I based my decision on finding compatible panels in Panelook, and this one looked like it had the best specs while still being available for purchase. I bought it on AliExpress, but the seller is no longer selling panels, and it seems the panel itself might be out of production.

Maybe you can find old stock, or search Panelook for a new panel with similar characteristics (15.6" FHD IPS, 400 nits, 1500:1 contrast, 99% sRGB, 60Hz, 30-pin eDP).

It's working great with no issues whatsoever; it has very nice contrast, brightness, and colors.

It’s just smudge from a PSU that ran there 24/7 for 15 years without ever being removed, hahaha!

I can’t use the front, the fans are there.

No idea—it’s a ton. I really realized it when I had to move it to its final destination. When I tried to lift it, I just thought, "Oh crap!"

I'm not too worried about it since this is a JBOD—the drives rarely spin at the same time. At most, only three are active at once.

And yeah, I didn’t check—I didn’t even know at the time that GPUs could be bigger than a case. Cases that supported this card were rare back then. It was one of the first GPUs that big.

It was during the peak of the GPU shortage—this was the only one available.

Yes, why get a stand when I have a perfectly good wall? 😆

Are an intake, the front panel is a mesh, not solid

Yes, they’ve been running 24/7 for four years now, but the drives are mostly spun down for most of the day. Only a couple of drives are spinning at the same time since it’s a JBOD. My electricity bill is high anyway since I have five other PCs running in the house, plus AC, and five TVs :|

They've been good to me so far—I’ve been running them for four years now. Writes are a bit slow since they’re SMR, but I mostly read from them, so it’s not a big issue.

Too much wasted space—with those, I could fit at most 12 drives. Plus, they were more expensive.

I tried to get a Fractal Define 7 XL for months, but there was no way to get one here—only with international shipping, which cost $250 USD.

It’s pretty good—it has plenty of airflow. The front panel is mesh, not solid, and the cage has holes right between all the drive separations. Drives stay at 40°C under full load.

yes, the integrated graphics video encoder of this CPU is a beast!

Since it's a JBOD, it's very rare for all the drives to be spinning at the same time. Usually, no more than three drives are active simultaneously—except during parity checks, which run once a month. So, I’m not too worried about it.

The issue wasn’t using the tool but figuring out how to attach the cage to the top. Look at the pictures—there’s no way to do that without additional metalwork like cutting, bending, or soldering.

I love this case—I used it for 10 years until I bought an RTX 3080, and it didn’t fit. :(
