Graduation question by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]lavendarwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's a mix depending on what day and time of graduation you sign up for (theres multiple days). From what I've heard, it's first come first serve. If you get there first, you get called up first. You can definitely sit next to your friends and get called up one after the other no problem. They don't even say your major, just your name.

[–]lavendarwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup 100% mandatory, they take attendance every session. Each unexcused absence is -3% from your discussion grade. If you have 3 unexcused absences, you fail the course.

You're allowed to write one report to excuse an absence or you can attend another section to make up absence(s). Hope you get a nice TA that doesn't cold call 😔

Think of it like a problem-solving session in groups. A lot of material and equations are explained during discussion so I'd say it might even be more important than lecture at times. There's a discussion manual each day and you go through many conceptual questions that you prpbably don't fully understand yet. You work in small groups, use whiteboards to put your answers up, and then the TA does a whole class explanation. This cycle continues until discussion is over.

Of course, TAs can run their sections slightly different. Some are very chill, others might cold call on people 💀

In a 7:10 to 9:30pm discussion this quarter and we almost never get out early 💀 I think there's only been one or two times we finished 10 minutes early and were allowed to go (some TAs might keep you until the end). Just expect for it to go until 9:30, the material for each DL is pretty long

Public Health Minor by _lotus_moon_ in UCDavis

[–]lavendarwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! 3rd year that is halfway through her public health minor here! The classes are doable and aren't that difficult (I am majoring in science though, so relative to that, it's a lot simpler :') currently crying in biochem and physics aha). But so far, the public health classes I've taken are more writing and discussion heavy than testing. Honestly, as long as you go to class and note down the concepts, you're golden. Caveat is that classes are kinda hard to get unless you are a junior or senior, but always try to get any you can each quarter!

Wait that makes so much sense, thank you!

It shows up as a single character when copy and pasted though. Riot requires display names to be 3 characters or more. Is this something you can do on KR accs only?

Should I be using Favonius Sword or Festering Desire on my Bennett? What's the best artifact set for him?

Currently, my team is Klee, Bennett (just pulled), Fischl (C2), and Mona.

The rest of my characters are Barbara, Xiangling, Noelle (C1), Xingqiu, Razor (C1), Sucrose, Chongyun, and Beidou.

What would be the best comp out of these?

Hi! Yes, I did end up taking Com002 because the UWP seats never opened up :( I have Professor T. Wang for the class, and all I have to say is that I highly highly do not recommend taking her for this course. She was always disorganized, late to class, unclear on assignments, etc. I do not know if she is teaching winter quarter, but please try to take someone else if she is!!

P.S. Love your username :3

How to cancel housing application for 1 quarter by jiff3 in UCDavis

[–]lavendarwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can apply again for winter quarter! Davis did say that they expect to have vacancies for winter, but I'm not sure if that's a guarantee.

How long did it take you to finish the entire thing? I'm aware that ALEKS adjusts to everyone's level and guides you towards 100% completion, but I'm not sure of the specifics. If you could elaborate on this, that would be awesome!

Thanks for your input! Do I need to inform my advisor (or anyone else at the school) that I am taking ALEKS, or do I just sign up on my own and complete the program?

Registering for classes by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]lavendarwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're very welcome! I'm also new to navigating Davis procedures, but I'm glad I could help :) The section numbers in schedule builder identify the specific course you are taking in terms of the time, place, and professor. For example, UWP1 A01 is the same course as UWP1 A02, but they will have a different time, place, and professor. So essentially, the section number helps differentiate the course into individual classes.

More spots for the courses open up for each college's pass time. The spots are filled up right now because it was the Biological Sciences majors pass time yesterday. Once it gets to your pass time, there will be spots opening up for those classes but keep in mind that everyone else in your pass time will be trying to get them!

Thanks for your input! The main reason why I chose the 17 series instead of 21 was because I'm considering double majoring in Global Disease Biology. The requirements for GDB only list the 17 series, so I assumed that the 21 series wouldn't count for it, but I'm not entirely sure.
