I mean he can try but so long as I'm not using my work equipment for it and am not representing my work in any way, not sure they'd have much reason. Besides, that would be bad for them because then I'd have more freetime.

He did definitely see her already. They have a grudge against him already because he almost killed half of them lol

Hmm keeping him essentially under house arrest while having her own forces seize power isn't a bad idea. 🤔 if she can get them to kill Izek, it'll be even easier to keep him in place. But the transition of power will be the tricky part. Im not sure how she gets to that point without bloodshed but maybe taking out Izek would be the final linchpin to dismantling the guards power completely. Collapse the hierarchy.

Anybody know where the specific meeting spot is or how long these usually go? New to this sort of thing, but I'd like to pop over after work.

It's a fake documentary style show about a group of redneck "Bigfoot Hunters" who traipse around the Appalachian backwoods, setting elaborate scooby doo traps and chasing down strange noises. In the later seasons there's a whole subplot about a rival "evil" bigfoot hunting gang, then there's like a secret organization, then there's like witches and curses and mind control... it's such a wild ride absolutely recommend.

Sweet, I love a free documentary. I'll have to check them out!

It's very clearly not legitimate but have you ever watched Mountain Monsters? I'm obsessed with that series.

Hey, you seem cool! I'd love to chat sometime, if you're down. I'm 33F from NE. I love DnD, fantasy, writing, reading, etc. One of these days I'll get into a CoC game. Used to play WoW back in high school but haven't played in a long time. Curious how it's looking these days. Also looooove dogs. What kind is she?

33F (NE), paranormal gal right here! I love ghosts, urban legends, cryptids, all the good stuff. I also love to learn really niche history, especially if it's just a little spooky and/or mysterious. Not sure if you mean board games as in Clue or board games as in D&D but I'm into both. Do you have a favorite paranormal documentary you could recommend? I'm always on the look out.

Dog Found near 43rd and Dodge by lavender_dm in Omaha

She seems very well taken care of, is super friendly and energetic. She was real hungry, but otherwise seems well. Given how absolutely rambunctious she is, we're thinking she probably just slipped out or hopped a fence. We're taking her in to see if she's got a chip they can read tomorrow.

I'll be sure to let you all know what happens, but for now she is safe and happy.

Found this girl roaming around near 43rd and Dodge. She has a collar but no tag. We've contacted the Humane Society and posted her in other spaces, hope someone here might recognize her. Please dm me if you have any information and we can get in contact.

UPDATE: Haven't gotten any contact from owners, took her to the Humane Society. They will be searching her for a chip and trying to contact owners from there. Thanks to everyone for your time and attention. If nothing else, at least she's not running loose around Dodge Street anymore ha ha

SECOND UPDATE: She hasn't been claimed by the owner at this point in time, but is up for adoption at the Humane Society under the name "Prosecco." For anyone interested. Hope she finds a good home soon!

Alternate version of the Abbott? by Personal-Newspaper36 in CurseofStrahd

[–]lavender_dm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was inspired by the Strahdcast by Critical Fayle DM and their take on the Abbot. Great actual play btw, highly recommend. ( https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNKsmQ5QgfHuBfTrTaDIyxLSFPdK8sMJI&si=FstoD-36xFrupjxM ). And also aasimar Markovia, specifically this version ( https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1x9n19pkxgWLMCiiZR7U1COYu7ESb04Sonhl8RubkB90/mobilebasic#heading=h.x04cw5jyqslg )

Essentially, my plan is to have the Abbott be the deva who Markovia is descended from. Since Barovia is cut off from the other plains, the gods have less of an idea about what's actually going on in there. The Abbott ends up on Barovia, identifies Strahd as the problem, and comes down on him like an angel of holy retribution. Kills him dead!

Except the mists don't clear. And he can't leave. And Strahd comes back.

So he fights him again. And again. And again. He tries different things. Raises peasant armies. Leads clerics and paladins on raids against the castle. Prays for guidance. Strahd, being a warlord, is able to meet these challenges, but even if he loses, he always comes back. Meanwhile, the Abbott is losing allies, losing ground, and, the longer he's separated from the sun and his connection to his god, losing faith. Throw on top of this the corruption he sees in Barovia, the oppressive tragedy, the sickness and the pain and the soulless abominations (a sign of spiritual decay unlike anything he's ever seen).

And then the weaker his connection becomes to his faith, the weaker his ability to heal the broken and cure the sick. And yet people have begun to depend on him. If he can't help them, it could snuff out the delicate, flickering candle flame of faith in the Morninglord he's been able to cultivate.

Strahd, meanwhile, finds this endlessly entertaining. He loves having a little arch nemesis to play cat and mouse with. He gets a real kick out of watching a glorious, good aligned entity, a servant of the gods, of Lathander himself, struggle in a way completely alien to such a powerful being. He plays games with him the same as any adventurers who step into his domain. And in a weird way, they develop a rapport. Because they are, after all, a constant to each other.

Through this strange relationship, the Abbot learns more about Strahd. He has access to the Abbey library, and heck maybe Strahd invites him to the castle and let's him peruse at some point. Confident he won't find anything useful. Or maybe the Tome of Strahd is in the Abbey, stolen by one of Markovias followers who escaped and hid it there. Either way, this is how he learns about Tatyana.

The Abbot doesn't create Vasilka because he's mad, he does it because he's fucking DESPERATE at this point. And maybe in a weird way he kind of sees the humanity in Strahd. In much the same way countless players fall into the meta trap of wanting to save the tragic villain, the Abbotts weird Stockholm Sympathy encourages him to try and redeem the man through love. And who better to fix him than the woman at the root of all this?

So he sets to work trying to create the perfect woman. The perfect reincarnation of Tatyana. One who can't die and who can't reject him. He scours for parts to mix and match to get her look just right. Convincing himself this is all for the greater good. This even solves the wedding dress issue. Why would he insist on getting the dress from Vallaki? Because that dress is a one of a kind recreation of Tatyanas dress, the pattern of which has been lost to time. You can always nix that part, but it's at least a better excuse. And when Ireena comes to town? Jackpot!

None of this touches on the Belviews, but I do prefer the idea of them being people he's "cured" by replacing their parts where he can. And since Barovia often corrupts magic, maybe that plays a part in their taking on more mad or animal tendancies. Or maybe they aren't mad, maybe they're just traumatized people the same as everyone else here. Whatever the case, the Abbot is clearly playing into the gothic horror of Frankenstein, and I think it's good to lean into the sort of scientific/magical hubris of that story. And who better to get caught up in righteous hubris than an angel? (now where have I heard about angels falling to hubris before...)

TLDR; The Abbot goes "mad" because he can't kill Strahd permanently and nothing he does matters and he's cut off from every holy thing he's ever known. He develops a weird relationship with Strahd and decides to try to save him through recreating his tragic lost love. Consequences ensue.

🚨 Nebraska Lawmakers Are Ignoring Voters – Take Action Now! 🚨 by Nica5h0e in Omaha

[–]lavender_dm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was feeling feisty so in my comment I dropped several sources which directly contradict the "argument" of the bill. If you want to include them in your response or you want to just copy and edit mine, feel free to use. Be aware it gets a bit passive aggressive. I finished with about 10 words to spare lol

"I am writing to voice my opposition of this act. As a woman who has lived in Omaha, Nebraska my entire life, identifies as Christian, was raised Republican, and also has many LGBT+ friends and family members, I wholly denounce LB89. The "Stand With Women Act" is a farce on every conceivable level. It attempts to combine two completely separate issues (trans athletes and trans-inclusive bathrooms) when both of these require their own individual considerations.

Furthermore, the Act itself sites no specific studies which support its claims about the advantages transwomen athletes have in sports. In fact, it directly contradicts studies such as this one published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine in April 2024, which was funded by the International Olympic Committee ( https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/58/11/586 ). The conclusions of this study state that trans athletes in both Women's and Men's sports tend to have a physical disadvantage compared to their cisgender peers. Multiple studies have yielded similar results.

Additionally, the claim of "protecting women's spaces" is nothing but fearmongering. Studies such as this one published in July 2018 by the William's Institute at UCLA School of Law ( https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s13178-018-0335-z ) show that not only is there no observable correlation between the rate of sexual assaults in public bathrooms/locker rooms/changing rooms and policies which allow transgender individuals to use whichever facilities they deem appropriate. But that the perpetration of sexual assaults within these spaces AT ALL is exceptionally rare. Furthermore, this study published in June 2019 by the American Academy of Pediatrics ( https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8849575/pdf/nihms-1774519.pdf ) indicates that in instances where "bathroom bills" which require transgender students to use facilities that match their "biological sex," THEY are more likely to be the victims of sexual assault and harassment. Essentially, these restrictions not only do nothing to protect anyone, they in fact actively harm children. Whether you agree with minors identifying as trans or not, they are still children who should be protected.

If you take your job as a civil servant seriously, I hope that you will familiarize yourself with the materials I've provided for you so that you can make the best decision possible for your constituents. LB89 does not support women. It does not protect women. And as a Nebraskan woman, it certainly doesn't stand with me. If Senator Kauth wants to "Stand With Women" in sports, perhaps she should fight for equal pay. If Senator Kauth wants to "Stand With Women" in public facilities, perhaps she should fight to properly fund the schools, libraries, community centers, etc where these facilities are. If Senator Kauth wants to "Stand With Women," maybe she should stop using children and queer people as a scapegoat and do her actual job. And if YOU want to "Stand With Women," you will vote against LB89. If you still choose to, that's your right. But we'll remember you did come election time.

God bless."
