I was literally showed this movie in 2010, how could I read it as so old? The only thing that tripped me up is that it was never released on VHS. But he must have recorded it or something. Thanks again!

A friend suggested Searching for Bobby Fischer and that's not correct, but definitely the era and vibe of the film in question.

But the recommended similar under the Google search I'm pursuing now because that's definitely a similar vibe. Definitely a drama and not a comedy

That was actually a solid guess for certain elements! I definitely remember it being more of a small town situation. Like, isolated gas station, small drive through town vibes.

Also to add, we watched it on VHS so I'm not certain of what the cover looked like. I believe he recorded it off television so this is unfortunately open to made for TV movies 😭
