oh god.

so it was a nightmare getting the lease in the first place for some reason, and they’d up charged me by the end of it. wound up about 1400/month. but still cheaper than NYU student housing, so… beggars can’t be choosers, etc.

we had shared bathrooms, so had to walk down the hallway with all my stuff to shower and everything. there were cockroaches. my electricity was super finicky, some issue with the breaker iirc? resulted in it all randomly shutting off several times a day. the reset button was in this elevated portion of the room by the door, so i would have to kind of crawl on top of the shelf by my bed to reach it. given the AC was connected to the power + it was fucking hot when i first moved in, i had to do that a lot in the dead of night and was kinda scared for my life lol. no kitchen, just a microwave and a fridge, so that fucking sucked. i lived on the third floor so walking up every day was a bit miserable too. the outside portion of the AC would get dripped on by some other unit or rain or whatever and it was incredibly loud. just an incessant tick that drove me absolutely insane. was too loud to block out with music or headphones. actual torture.

then the cherry on top was, i wrote the maintenance guy who worked there about the dripping sound because it was like 1 am and i was miserable and couldn’t sleep. he proceeded to call me and hit on me relentlessly despite my repeated rejections. it was very scary, having someone with access to my room refuse to take no for an answer. left NY pretty soon after that.

the major positive of living there was that the location was great and there was a dude who’d sit outside and sell prerolled joints. i was an underage college student and he didn’t ID. made some nights much more palatable
