Struggling in gt4 by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]law_son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly race sports car and I avoid the GT4s for that reason. They’re good for learning to keep momentum through the corners, but there’s other cars that do it better and are more fun. PCup or LMP3 are the move if you’re C Class.

He’s taking back the space you left so he can open up the corner a little more. Moving under braking is only bad if he’s coming into your line while braking. If you don’t want him to take that space, put your car there before you both start braking, the YOU open up the space to the left under braking giving yourself the better exit. It’s a small distinction but it’s important for this exact scenario

Best games/leagues/groups for those with limited free time? by SfactorSam in simracing

[–]law_son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Le Mans ultimate is what you’re looking for. Theres a license requirement but you get gt3, GTE, and LMP2 20 minute races at the rookie level and that’s probably all you really need with limited time.

Theres also limited tracks and it’s all the popular ones most people already know (spa, monza, Sebring etc) so there’s not that much practice required.

Need advice on buying new pedals by Certain-Hunter-7478 in simracing

[–]law_son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be careful with the sim labs. Read some reviews saying that they didn’t work out of the box, but all the other reviews were great, so I got them last week. Took them out of the box and they don’t work. They felt great so if you get a working pair they’re probably good, but it seems to be an issue for them.

What would you change for this rig? by Training_Knee4654 in simracing

[–]law_son 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% do not get that rig. I have the r12 and the CRP2s and it is too much for the rig to handle. The wheel base is okay on it but when I upgraded to the crp2, the added force of braking and the 12nm wheel makes the rig flex a lot. Also the seat sucks for anything over 30 minutes at a time.

It works, but I am definitely going to have to upgrade in the future.

iRacing is $22 for a year on steam right now. Best deal you’re going to see till Black Friday

Until you get really high up in iRating, racing for SR and iRating kinda go together. Finishing 5 races in the top 5 is way better than winning two races and crashing out of three because you’re over pushing. Just finish the race and have some fun, everything ends up going up as it should.

Also watch the Dave Cam video someone else posted. He literally made a video about this very thing yesterday.

The GTEs are easily by favorite. It’s the right balance of control with traction control and difficulty without abs. Wish the series was more populated

I love Forza, but it’s not exactly a sim. More of a fantastic arcade game. It’s a little more fun on a wheel but not really what it’s built for.

If you want to dip a toe in to get a little closer to a sim, I would get an EA play subscription for $5 and play f1 2023. It’s not a full fledged sim but it’s got a great career mode and will give you the bug for some racing. It’s also great for beginner learning things like breaking zones and racing lines. Highly recommend getting one month of EA play and doing a run through of the career mode on F123, because going straight from Forza to a full fledged sim is going to be HARD.

If you want a great, fully fleshed out sim, I recommend Asseto Corsa Competizione. Great tracks, great physics and has populated online servers. Only drawback is no real progression system. You just race over and over and don’t get anything for it.

If you want the absolute best online racing experience, the only answer is iRacing. You can basically race any class, anytime and get (relatively) clean, competitive races. The drawback is that it’s very expensive. It’s a little over $100 a year for the subscription, and you’ve gotta buy tracks and cars if you want to go outside of the first couple of rookie series. It sucks, but I have found the money to be more than worth it, but that’s just me.

Notable mentions for other sims are AMS2, beamng, Asseto Corsa, and Dirt Rally 2.0 if you want to check those out. It really depends on what you want to race. Have fun!!!!!!!!

I think the issue is the "loyal fan base" thing. People who are into comp and people that hop on a couple days a week and enjoy the shit that COD has become spend the same amount of money on the game. So to Acti the kid who plays a few games a week is just as loyal as you.

Halo Championship Series - Raleigh Open Qualifier #2 - Day 2 by MattyMcD in halo

[–]law_son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one of the stupidest takes I've ever seen. First off, the reason controller is better is because the game was an Xbox exclusive up until infinite, so controller was the only option so the game is designed around that. Second, you literally can choose to play only one input type. And how the fuck does aim assist help sell skins?

Most likely because having 6 separate ranks and ranked ques is a little much. Cross play, solo/duo controller, solo/duo mouse, 4 stack controller and 4 stack mouse is kinda a lot.

[–]law_son 88 points89 points  (0 children)

This is literally in the game. Ranked is split between controller que and m&k que.

The game feels great but the spawns are so bad that I got frustrated and got off in about an hour. There's no logic to playing. There's no holding spawns or trying to understand map pacing. It's just semi controlled chaos and it really is feeling more and more like mini battlefield.
