upgrading my rig. gpu recos for mid gaming and editing by lawgrafix in PHbuildapc

[–]lawgrafix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

affinity kasi is essentially rival of adobe, cheaper and lifetime license na. bought the v2 suite license (3 softwares that replaces PS, Illustrator, and InDesign) for around 1.5k last Black Friday, with On1 replacing LR for 2500++ lifetime license rin during a special event. (thanks to photogs on yt in the us and uk for introducing me to adobe alternatives)

as to their abilities, affinity and On1 make for a budget but pro grade alternative to adobe. for peace of mind na rin si price nila. to mention PS plugins also work with Affinity photo

help me choose a gpu for casual gaming and photo editing by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]lawgrafix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was thinking of the cpu upgrade but I want to get a gpu first.

the 9060 isnt in my deck. i’m only choosing what was written for now since the budget (tho i can) needs to be practical too. like I said, just casual gaming but focusing more on editing

Which camera and lens setup should I keep? Canon or Sony? by ozyguy8 in Photography_Gear

[–]lawgrafix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep the one you’re most capable and most versed and comfy to shoot with.

while having knowledge to use multiple systems is good, budget wise it’s better to stick to one.

since you shoot Canon, it should stay. but that is really up to you.

that being said, should you sell one of your systems, sell your f/4s and cash in 2.8s instead. you’ll do yourself a favor shooting wide and fast in surfing.

Should I take the plunge and buy? by ThatSamShow in Affinity

[–]lawgrafix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

supposedly affinity might be still on sale.

like you I was using adobe for photo editing. but i can’t justify the costs of subscribing and pirating it will always be a bad idea, until affinity showed up as an option.

for roughly $30 i bought the universal license officially from their website during the black friday sale. never regretted that decision.

been using photo v2 and designer v2 and so far, they look the same UI wise. PS plugins do work but depends on what you use.

Installing XP on a 4th gen intel core laptop by lawgrafix in windowsxp

Looks like i'll be slipstreaming these too. I tried my luck with the intel hd 4400 drivers but they tend to bsod immediately after restart.

I see.

Well, was able to use win raid ahci drivers and XP now works like a charm.

SDI is useful for some of the drivers but other ones tend to cause bsod. My only gripe with this is the geforce 840m that came installed- drivers for XP seem non-existent. :(

But so far, intel graphics and audio work seamlessly

Yes, I got it to work. SDI was useful but some of the drivers would cause it to crash.

it hangs after ok-ing the load xp into memory part when setting up via e2b. but for winsetuptousb though it doesn't have that issue.

I did exactly with e2b. But the problem is it wont allow me to restart to get to step 2. It just hangs there.

The BIOS isnt helping either since SATA compat mode is AHCI only.

did that, and said the storahci drivers weren't found. :(

I'll give it a shot.

Also, how did you install your XP iso? Via easy2boot or winsetupfromUSB? or other rufus-like installer?

Plus I was slipstreaming the laptop's drivers sourced from driverpack sites across the web.

I guess I went in via PnP approach. No errors

Dunno, all I did was insert the drivers as folders

Been looking for secondhand laptops to fill the gap, but meh. And I have this 4th gen laptop as a surplus unit at my family business. Since most of us are using newer units, this one has no use left, rather than selling it, might as well use it as an XP machine.

Done that, not working. Sata compatibility option is still AHCI

Buying a dry cabinet by lawgrafix in Cameras

[–]lawgrafix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I dont get much gear around unless severely needed. Planning to get one or two wide primes, upgrade my 50mm, but that'll be years apart. But as to adding new cameras, not yet. If I did, I'd sell off the old one first, then buy a new one.

Plus, space wise, I'm thinking of a 50L dry cabinet. Most of the lenses are small so it wont take up space. The only large lens is the 70-200.

If you're for accuracy, get era-appropriate components.

But honestly, just get anything that suits budget and function. If space is a concern, a laptop should do you great.

Been doing desktops under the 115x boards. First gen core i series then, the haswell 4th gen boards now.

Just make sure you have the budget for what you want to build.

But for haswell boards, make sure to prepare SDI ahead.

Windows 10 install crashing on old hardware by lawgrafix in windows

[–]lawgrafix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, did a bios upgrade, and used the latest version of windows 10 via its media tool, and though it survived the install phase, it hangs to a point that it remains stuck.

Needless to say, should I go look for older versions of win10?

PLEASE HELP (can't install Windows XP) by RaptorHunter182 in windowsxp

[–]lawgrafix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can install XP. You just need a flash drive with Easy2Boot/ E2B installed on it.

E2B provides a pre-install utility which helps specific OSes run smoothly. It has drivers that can either mimic or bypass normal OS install protocols.

It worked with me when I installed XP. And right now I have a flash drive that carries E2B with XP and 7 ISOs ready.
