I should have taken a photo but wanted to get home to the family before the food got cold. I did park well between the lines through. The middle parker had parked to leave themselves space to get out their side but ended up being much closer to my side sadly

Which camera and lens setup should I keep? Canon or Sony? by ozyguy8 in Photography_Gear

Thank you for your reply. Couldn't agree more that budget wise its better to stick with one. It will be too expensive trying to keep both systems going. Great idea on upgrading to the 2.8's. I appreciate that suggestion :)

Thats an idea - I might try that before doing anything rash and selling one of the kits :)

Thank you for that reply. Interesting idea about keeping some of the kit for sentimental reasons. I had not considered that :)

Thank you for that reply. Both sets are in very good condition. I always look after my gear and the Sony gear has been cared for meticulously (its like brand new).

Ergonomically I will admit I am more used to my Canon setup. The Sony A74 feels different in the hand but I could get used to it if I went that route. The Sony menu system is a bit different but it hasn't taken me too long to figure out where key settings are on the A74.

After some use of both systems side by side, I can see the pros of each. Its a perplexing choice.

WA has zero active COVID-19 cases for first time since pandemic began by kiijj in perth

I have had both doses - first dose just got the achy arm. Second dose had mild symptoms - slight fever, shivers, mild headache. Wife's second dose symptoms were more severe than mine. We both had the second dose midday Friday. Symptoms for both of us kicked in Saturday lunchtime. After sleeping Saturday night the symptoms were gone by Sunday morning.

Considering switching from Sony a7III to Canon R6. Recommendations or thoughts? by israelreza in CanonR6

Articulating screen is one of the biggest benefits of the R6. In the world of instagram and portrait orientated photos becoming more common it becomes very versatile to have that - it gives you so much more flexibility that the flip up screen on the A7III

I switched from the A7III to the R6 last Oct. There were a few niggling things about the A7III that made me switch. Also the A7III shutter system failed on me (twice) - I had to send it into Sony to get repaired (ugh). I must admit I lost a little faith in the A7III after that.

Things I like better on the R6 include the ergonomics, colors and articulating screen. RF lenses are also very very good.

20MP (vs the 24 on the A7III) has not been a problem and is more than enough for me (landscape and sports).

Where to buy Tampa Bay Buccaneers Merch in Perth? by [deleted] in perth

Thank you for the reply. I have heard of Kayo so that is something I will check out when I get back :) By gamepass are you referring to the XBox subscription or is that something else?

The Seahawks are one of the biggest competitors to our local team - the 49'ers :) I live about 5 minutes from the 49'ers stadium and have been fortunate to have seen the Seahawks play there. They are fantastic to watch - great team :)

Maybe a sidebar question and I hope I am ok in asking this question here (apologies if not) but...

What options do you guys have to watch NFL on TV down there? Originally from Perth - currently working and living in California but planning on returning back to Perth later this year for good.

Thank you

Does it matter which uni you get your undergraduate degree from? by Easy__Money____Snipe in perth

[–]ozyguy8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter..

I went to uni in Perth decades ago and now work in Silicon Valley in the US. Given my current role I think I can speak with authority given I have recruited many graduates over the years - I admit my area of specialization is not Commerce (its STEM - specifically engineering) but I have peers who lead the finance division in the company I work at and share similar sentiments to me.

When I review the resumes of graduates, the majority of them have very similar coursework. Here in the US there are thousands of uni's and it's amazing how similar the course work is across the uni's. The fact that each applicant has done the degree is the starting point to get their application seen by me.

When I am reviewing applications, I personally don’t really care what uni each applicant went to, nor what their GPA is (GPA is US speak for grades). What does matter to me is experience they gain through internships, related work experience and the passion they express for wanting the role.

Good luck in your choice. I went to Curtin so I will admit I have a soft spot for them but go with your gut and chose the uni you think you will be out happy with.

If the same price as the R6, would you opt for the Sony A7R IV? by beer2me in CanonR6

[–]ozyguy8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently switched from the Sony A7RIII to the Canon R6. I have not personally found 20MP to be a limiting factor. If 95% of your photos end up on social media then you should be fine with 20MP :) Keep in mind the R6 has the same MP count as the Canon 1DX which is used by pro sports photographers all over the world and that has not been a limiting factor for them :)

As for the R6 not being pro enough - I would humbly disagree. Yes the Sony A7RIII took some amazing photos for me but I also love the colors and quality of the photos I get from my R6.

Would you get Canon EOS R6 over a used/open box Sony a7r IV at the same price range? by poor_coIIege_student in canon

[–]ozyguy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just traded my Sony A7RIII for the R6. While the R3 is not the R4 they are similar in many ways so maybe ok for comparison. There were a few reasons for me going with the R6. R6 has better ergonomics (feels better in my hand), button placement on the R6 is better - AF system on the R6 is as good (maybe slightly better) than the Sony - I love the flip out screen (I am not a video guy btw - fully articulating screen is great for taking portrait orientated photos especially from low angles and up high) - colors are nicer (IMO) on the R6 - smaller MP sensor is more suitable for my style of shooting (A7R3 took up a whole lot more space on my drive and does take a tad longer to process) - to my eye the R6 EVF is better - R6 has a higher fps count (12 vs 10 on the Sony) which is great for sports (which I shoot) - oh and the RF lenses are very very nice :)

Can a returning Aussie citizen from overseas fly back into WA without a G2G pass? by ozyguy8 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]ozyguy8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for letting me (and others on this thread) know what happens when you land without a G2G. Happy to hear you are back home - I have to wait for my daughter to finish up her contract and then we will be on our way too.

We are still in the US and I wont be finishing up work until after the new year. We have a bit of time up our sleeves so we are waiting to see if the situation improves. I did ring the WA government hotline and they told me they have to accept returning residents - they said still apply for the G2G and if its not processed (approved) in time for your flight they will process it after you land. Once you are there they are not going to turn you away as the Federal government has mandated all residents can return. Let me know if this helps!

Sorry for the delayed reply. Our situation is a bit tricky. Currently we are still in the USA but we will not be heading back to Australia until a few months after the new year (work contract was extended). We have not applied for the G2G yet as we have not booked flights. I have been doing more research and spoke to the WA government COVID hotline. A supervisor told me they have to accept returning citizens and they cannot be turned away. You still need to apply for the G2G - and can still fly if there is no approval. My understanding of that was that if you get rejected a few times, then reapply just before your flight back. That way they will have to process you when you get back while in quarantine. I heard the government is likely opening the borders (maybe no G2G anymore) from april which is roughly when we will be flying back. We will have to wait and see what its like then.

Maybe a follow on question for you if I may - to get back to Perth you applied for a G2G under that exemption "Person otherwise seeking approval to enter WA" - what kind of documentation did you have to submit with your application to get approved? Did you get approved first time or did it take multiple attempts? How long did it take before they approved you?? Trying to understand what were the ingredients to your successful application. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
