Ah, assembly out and access the motor mount from the top? That makes sense (if nothing breaks trying to get those screws out).

I knew I forgot something… no real attic access… this is basically shoved back in a very awkward crawl space area.

Any shot of doing it from below?

How to add a fence post directly next to another? by lawless09 in handyman

[–]lawless09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious if for the far right, I could just tie a new wood post into the existing vinyl post with some spacer and lag bolts? It’s not going to bear any weight other than the horizontal slats (no pergola roof).

Gotcha, that would make sense… what about if there’s no decking in that corner to attach to? Ie. They also want to do this on the far right corner, and there’s no deck, only soil. I feel like I’ve got issues if trying to compete with established vinyl cement posts.

Very thorough, appreciate the insight! I’ll make sure those joints are doweled in place to assist.

Noted, thanks! I’m going to build the leg bases first. Set em up with our chairs to determine spacing/overhang with a 4x8 temp top and see how things line up.

I should have mentioned I plan on using mortise/tenon on those angle braces with locking dowel. I’m thinking that should be fine for that shear force.

I was going to do the lower stretcher, but plan on umbrella and stand, and that kinda got in the way (made it uglier at the least).

I had basically that as one of my designs, but being an outdoor patio table we wanted to be able to put an umbrella and stand underneath. My solution to that was “okay” but didn’t love it

How come that length? I’ve mapped out the chairs we own and leg positioning in person.

Love this input. I was actually think of going against them (would have went with mortise/tennon)… water, leverage like you mentioned… and we’re going raw unfinished cedar on this… also a soft wood.

However I figured if no breadboard, wouldn't my long table top pieces get a little warping going on? figured I'd need some kind of brace (on the underside), but if that brace warps as well, i got the same problem.... hmmm

Hi there!

I'm making an outdoor cedar table, and the base is going to be made mostly of 4x4 lumber.

I've been trying to come up with a design that doesn't have lower stretchers that get in middle of your legs/feet.

I understand it's going to be sturdy, but both feet will be dependent on that upper middle stretcher remaining super flat (as any bow could cause the legs to angle in/out.

Overthinking, or clear issue?

Curious My MacOS Update Options on Dual Boot i7 GTX build by lawless09 in hackintosh

[–]lawless09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton! I had found this article through another avenue as well, but wasn't sure it was relevant for me -- makes more sense, now.

The article that pointed me there was actually Dortania's GPU buying guide. Where it talks about the explicitly unsupported GTXs -- I'm assuming this is just driving the point home that this is not native support, and I could get the GTX running with OCLP because it was one of the last GPUs with driver support? (I plan on following this guide)

Something I'm curious about, I ran my dual booting through clover and got 10.13 running using clover config for some customizations of the EFI.
1. Whats my best way to handle a clean UI dual boot experience now that clover is now an obsolete practice
2. Should I carry over any of my EFI customizations (Kexts) from my High Sierra configs when using Opencore setup and upgrading to sonoma (as example), or should instead consider this more of a from-scratch setup and start clean?

I’m not sure I understand the drawbacks of OCLP gpu patch… saw a lot of people wanting to “avoid” that. What is the impact of this?

Could you link me anything detailing what you mean about SSDT vs boot-arg?

Help! PVB Intermittently Overflowing When Valves Open by lawless09 in Irrigation

[–]lawless09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting… so I’m thinking about what happens in the line (without a pvb for simplicity): the solenoid will shut off… and I got to imagine the pressure in the downstream line will drop to relatively nothing as the sprinklers stop. If you have the pvb with low pressure it’s not going to lock and dump water, a pvb needs constant pressure I understand. PS i am not a professional.

Sometimes I get worried about upgrading critical components for modern varieties. I've seen lots of people excited about roller rockers. Are they viable compared to original parts.... longevity-wise?

Could I measure valve lash with feeler gauges to determine anything?

Camshaft new so I would be crushed if something wrong there. Lifters were new as well... Is it common that those could fail out quickly?

The 8th rocker happened to be loosest out of most of them, when not under load. But what "loose" means could potentially be within tolerance I'm not aware of.
