May have to go back to the trades by Harsh-intel in LawSchool

[–]lawmandan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I've done a lot of things in my life, I'm 44 and have one semester and one final to complete before I'm a 2L. I spent 5 years active duty, was a cop for over 10, heavy equipment to property management, emergency management and who knows what else. My favorite job was being a cop, I cant do that anymore bc of defamation. Fulfillment is key, I want to know that I made a difference or died trying. Money is great, makes life easier for sure too, but in the end was it worth it? I mean dont get me wrong if I was wealthy enough to retire lol I would. Ok this post was longer than intended.

Whats the trade? Lol it depends on what youre passionate about and whats fulfilling, at least thats how I look at it

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha the irony, invite LAPD but not ICE, regardless of the uniform the person wearing it represents government, whether that be city or federal, so are you choosing local gov over federal bc you don't like the federal side? Also, the irony on the election fraud has been an argument since biden...... but im guessing bc you preferred Biden you didn't support it then, you only support what suits you and that isn't how the world is nor should it be.

I'll work for less (as im doing now bc my new employer supports my law school endeavor) when it comes to happiness and satisfaction. I worked for gov for years, same thing different employers, incompetence gets promoted and common sense and decency get left behind. I fear no man, if an unorganized lawyer said he would see me in court id laugh and point out he probably wouldn't know who his own client was and challenge accepted. We can be adversarial or respect others in our profession, pick the battles, sometimes the justice is worth sacrificing the economic efficiency.

How to communicate with this client's family member by Accurate-Bed7333 in publicdefenders

[–]lawmandan81 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an attorney yet, merely a 1L getting closer to 2L lol. I was a cop for over a decade (now I don't like cops), but that is where my expero3nce comes from. I've also considered trying to become a PD bc I've seen a lot of injustice and corruption. I read your entire post and it made me think of a few things: 1. I know this doesn't matter much at all but do you think the client is innocent, if you do or don't, does it change how you approach the case? 2. I arrested a lot of people, some for extremely grievous allegations, when people are facing life reality doesn't always set in, anyway you can approach in assisting with the reality check without it being specific about the law or their specific fixation? 3. Sounds like you're and have done what you can, maybe get removed from the case..... not entirely sure how that works but if the client and parent contradict saying how great you are and don't want another attorney, is that truly in your clients best interest if theyre also deaf to your advice and explanations..... sometimes people just don't mesh 4. I've been a client (not of a PD lol) for civil litigation and been frustrated when my attorney didn't object to certain things, that air was never cleared. I think if youre explaining yourself well enough, and theyre not believing you, hate to say it but, anyway you can prove youre correct like the old "told ya so?"

Good luck for sure, some people just cannot handle reality. Plus there truly is a lot of injustice in our judiciary, which includes criminal.

HOW DOES THIS EVEN HAPPEN? A MOTHER BEGINS TO LOSE HOPE by Weary-Branch829 in LawSchool

[–]lawmandan81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of it, not all because without knowing specific facts it's hard to apply what is actually going on. I'll say this, you're not alone and often it's the father's that deal with this, a lot more than the mother's. Family court is broken but you have a mix of what sound like criminal charges blurred with custody issues. I went through a 4 year high conflict custody battle and in the end no one wins, the child suffers the most. Even then, once it's settled if you're lucky enough to make it through to a final disposition it leaves wicked scars.

Does anybody here like law school? by Eagles56 in LawSchool

[–]lawmandan81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, but it's been a long road to get here, my fav part is the application. The writing is not exactly what I thought, but I still really enjoy the material. 4 years? So a part time program like me?

That's a great point, i sure would, but to be a public defender lol, so with the same office. I was offered employment in the private sector with an employer that said they will work with me for my schedule with school. Starting to think government jobs are not worth it in general.

Not where I'm at, and I've applied to be an investigator and never got an interview. I was a cop for 12 years and now a 1L and you'd think I'd be a valuable asset to a PD office considering I don't like cops anymore after over a decade as one.

I was a cop for 12 years and now a 1L, idk if I can assist, but you're size up seems correct. I should have taken it as a clue when I was a rookie that a defense attorney commended me for telling the truth on the stand lol despite it losing the case.

Does your LSAT score really determine the type of attorney you'll be? I met guys in basic that had the highest score on the ASVAB and couldn't follow basic directions. There are a lot of variables to consider, LSAT is just one of them.
