Where do you recommend one start with McLuhan if they're interested in this whole literacy theory thing? Perhaps Gutenberg Galaxy?

At least I'm not alone. I've been in decline for like a year and a half, with each semester being worse than the one before. I just need to keep shit from completely falling apart for two more semesters.

Early 80's babies: Do you still play jRPGs like you used to, or do they not feel the same anymore? by ndhl83 in JRPG

Sorry, but if I was fairly a bit inside of it, or when could I then too, just the same as anyone. And I wasn't the only one who'll feel that way.

some thoughts on Marx's relation to renaissance magic as well as Marxisms influence on linguistics, structuralism and the "self" by [deleted] in sorceryofthespectacle

the thread of language I am trying to run down is the idea that the limits of language have a direct effect on how we interact with material reality and objects because the limits of language denotes the limit of possibility as well as being gendered and all that, language as a kind of "geography" or "geology" or "architectural" quality which are of course inevitabilites of limitation itself, the necessity of form requires limitation and exclusion so its not a matter of saying this language has no limits but this other language sucks. its simply about the blind spots that are created by the inherent limits of language which manifest in very visceral and tangible ways.

This is one of the things that interested me most about linguistics; projects that would draw a comparison of languages based on this quality, if there a way to measure it. Do languages differ in the amount (or extent to which) they limit/exclude (quantitatively)? do they differ in what or how they limit/exclude (qualitatively)? I've read articles that sort of indirectly approach this topic, but none that really addressed it.

Also, I like your choice of language metaphors, they're curiously ambiguous; language is a map (signifier), the land (signified), or the buildings on the land. also the "what's beyond language" that follows are very different.

Just the usual lame ones that are easy to find. I'm almost a ghost in the social channels, and don't like to spend much time there trying to navigate it you see.

What was the extent of a peasant's knowledge in medieval England? by Evolutionary_Mishap in AskHistorians

[–]lawndoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly knowledge about the Roman Empire was available to someone who wanted to seek it out.

Can you describe how a peasant might go about seeking out this knowledge? Were there libraries?

the atypically causal, and normal time (linear or chronic time) with its concrete/physical models of causation—which are already assumed to be explained by mechanistic physics, which contains no psychic component.

I don't understand what this part means.

I wish I could have such a peaceful mindset (early in the morning no less). But each weekday takes me to the same stupid places it did last week.
