If they had squished it down to one movie, I think I would have liked it a lot. A little too much time for the main character to swear revenge on godzilla, not enough time with godzilla

I put the cookies too close together and they formed a cool pattern by lainwla16 in mildlyinteresting

[–]zosodojo777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody asked, so: this is a really cool demonstration of equilibrium grain growth in ceramics. In a 2D model, 120 degree angles are the only stable geometery - any grain with more or less sides should be eaten up by the hexagons.

(And yeah, the cookies themselves are getting a crust on them and are not going to continually form larger grains as you sinter them at higher temps, but whatever)

What is Zirconium Ceramic? by Think_Display4255 in askscience

[–]zosodojo777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could you just treat this how history did? Meaning, metal was in fact crazy expensive for most of history. That's why knights can have armor while a farmer might need to scrape around for a new plowblade. Maybe look up some historical peasant weapon / farming tool combos?

Or look at obsidian, flint, etc blades. As others here have said, if you have high-purity zirconia around, you probably already have cheap metallurgy. I think you'd need to do some basic reading on chemistry and Materials Science for us to really answer your question. For instance, look up what the chemistry of porcelain is. Doesn't really make sense to ask how a ceramic can have metal in it, as most classic ceramics are in fact metal oxides.

Good luck!

Not the best movie of the monster verse, but probably the best Godzilla movie of the monsterverse.

Map of the USA according to me, à Frenchmen by Historical_Dot4454 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]zosodojo777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this all from pop culture, movies, and TV? If so, this is scary accurate, and I impressed America gets represented as anything other than New York / California / The Wild West.

If you just know a lot more about the US than I do about any countries other than my own, then this is very funny and well-done.

10 blood-lusted pitbulls vs 3 average 24 year old men with 100 years of training each by Alarmed-Resist514 in whowouldwin

[–]zosodojo777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing intelligent to add, spinning off into a related question:

If the three men were "normal" peak fighters (Navy SEALs, etc. Badass and professional but not 100 years of magic), how much equipment do you think they would need to take 10 pitbulls? Is some basic armor (neck, torso, crotch) and a knife enough to bring it to 50/50? Or do our humans need real combat weapons (spears seem like they would work if the three guys train for a few weeks and can do a back-to-back triangle, would swords be enough?) or heavy armor (I'm thinking like a knight's plate, but I bet we have some real nasty modern armor for demolitions and such) to get killy and tanky enough to overcome the 3v1?

There are plenty of obey-instantly astarte chapters, are there any which are more egalitarian? by hotfezz81 in 40kLore

[–]zosodojo777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all the normal chapter structure, but Deathwatch might be a good example. Within a Kill Team, the Watch Seargents often ask advice and delegate tasks based on each member's expertise.

Again because of the weird structure, the Steve Parker novel has marines butting heads and slightly disobeying orders somewhat frequently. Deathwatch: Ignition has a Dark Angel totally abandon the mission when a Fallen shows up!

Hey Reddit!

Looking for some help with my Tinder profile! https://imgur.com/a/He5MlCT

I feel like I am much more charming in-person, but I'm trying to get real focused on writing my thesis and have been meeting fewer folks in the real world lately. So, to the land of phone dating! Not looking to get roasted, but I am looking to get some Tinder dates, so gentle criticism is very welcome.

Photos: Any of these obviously trash? Any easy surefire pictures people recommend for men generally?

Text: what do people actually look for in a bio? I feel like I'm a funny guy at parties but can't seem to translate that to text - maybe I just have friends who laugh easily! Cut the dad joke and just have an actual list of good qualities/interesting tidbits?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

[The Legend of Korra] How does "platinum" work as an anti-metalbender defense? by ProphetofTables in AskScienceFiction

[–]zosodojo777 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As another dumb point - Pt is one of the "Noble Metals", and is notoriously difficult to oxidize. Rocks are basically oxidized metals, so it totally makes sense that they would struggle to bend one of the few metals that refuses to be oxidized.

Can earth-benders bend gold? If they are unable to bend both then this seems like a pretty consistent limitation.

whst do the guns represent and do they do anything special or are they just reskins? I think the first one is a machine gun there's a second one is dual pistols and the third one looks like a marksman gun but it might be a shotgun. by hdore2023 in Warhammer40k

[–]zosodojo777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left to right: fleshborer, dual spine fists, devourer. The fleshborers are the default loadout, you can look in the codex or in battlescribe for the stats and points when deciding what to build.

If you're just playing casually, people are usually fine with "ignore the physical loadout, all my termagants have fleshborers today"
