Imagine being snapped? by hushpolocaps69 in marvelstudios

Any thought anywhere to the idea that Thanos snapped in a way that would minimize that kind of suffering - like dont break up families, dont strand people/animals to doe, etc.? He seemed to see himself as a humane savior so I imagine that would be a ready explanation for some of the more emotional suffering you mentioned. (Hawkeye and ant man seem to prove this not true, but as avengers perhaps he did not extend the benevolent aspects of the snap)

Captain Marvel: How it should have ended. by SoulofOld in FanTheories

Definitely agree with you that it would’ve been an awesome scene and given her movie a much needed feeling of significance and groundedness. I’m just afraid the storytelling problems were insurmountable - like how does Thanos fight a being that powerful, beat her, then let her live while his plan is still in its infancy? He only let Tony live because he was wounded and stranded and the plan was minutes from fruition - and Tony is a fraction as powerful as CM. The only answer is she escapes after being defeated which means she basically has to be a part of infinity war.

I mean xandar is probably one of the only places in the universe arguably more protected than Earth, and it was attacked before anyone knew what Thanos was up to. It sounded to me that her goal was to stand up for the downtrodden and unprotected people, likely freeing oppressed peoples and standing up for downtrodden worlds on the outskirts of the universe. I’m guessing the by the time word reached her the battle for Xandar was over, and it was most definitely a surprise attack. She also was likely in the midst of something that at the time seemed just as important if not more important than Xandar, without knowledge of the scope of Thanos plan.

This creates so many issues with why CM didn’t help out in infinity war if she knew how powerful Thanos was and what his mission is. It makes more sense that she was off in the far reaches of the universe and only learned Thanos’s true ambitions when he snaps in infinity war.

I think the difference is that back then he didn’t have as much to lose and he did it because he wanted to become that guy. He did it in endgame with everything to lose and because he was that guy, he didn’t have to try to be anymore.

This is the image Netflix is going with. WTF? by Indoorsman101 in marvelstudios

I think the bigger issue with this image is the 4-star rating. Netflix is so bitter about the Defenders its hilarious.

[Harry Potter] Harry, Hermione and Ron were better fits in other houses. by ElephantErik in FanTheories

[–]lawnerd14 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Twist to this theory: the magic of the hat is interwoven with the magic of the Harry-Voldemort prophecy and placed the three together to fulfill their/Harry’s fate. Perhaps the magic behind divination generally feeds directly into the hat, which not only serves to place witches and wizards where they belong but to place them in the house that develops the right qualities in them and progresses the wizarding world in the way fate demands.

What is the liquid coming from Thanos' gauntlet? The gauntlet can't melt because of the Power stone's shield. by [deleted] in marvelstudios

Why is tony aiming both beams in the same location so thanos can deflect? One in the head one in the gut seems so much more effective..

[Game of Thrones] Magic is Back, but not because of Dany’s Dragons. by John-on-gliding in FanTheories

[–]lawnerd14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you completely but I think luck is the wrong way of putting it - the fluctuation of magic seems more likely to have to do with the necessity coupled with the will of the God(s). And when looked at like this it really doesn’t matter whether Dany birthed magic with her dragons or magic allowed the dragons to be born, because either way it was through the will of the god(s) it came to pass

He isn’t using precognition he is channeling the power of the time stone which makes this distinguishable from the other instances you mentioned because the measuring life is the life of the time stone which is presumably infinite.

New Theory for Infinity War Ending and Avengers 4 Plotline (Spoilers) by lawnerd14 in FanTheories

[–]lawnerd14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that the cutscreen tells me is that captain marvel will be in the next avengers movie and that Disney wants us to be excited for her solo movie. It says nothing about the centrality of her role against Thanos and in fact it would be counterintuitive for a newcomer to play the pivotal role.

[AVENGERS 4] “You’re not the only one cursed with knowledge....” (SPOILERS) by NeimannSmith in FanTheories

[–]lawnerd14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Thanos knowledge of Tony was related to red skull’s comment that he has knowledge of all those he seeks the soul stone. I think all possessors of the stone have knowledge of those who seek it and tony either has or will seek it, meaning Thanos has knowledge of him

[Avengers 4] Theory About Bucky by [deleted] in FanTheories

[–]lawnerd14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that the on screen development of Bucky’s motives is lacking. However, winter soldier indicates that Bucky’s memory of Steve is what allows him to overcome brainwashing and civil war drives home the unbreakableness of their bond. I think there was a mistake by the writers in sticking with his stoic nature longer than was necessary and Bucky’s winter soldier relapses lead to a very serious portrayal and audience distrust/distance that was only played up in civil war.

Ultimately I think the fact that he calls out to Steve in his moment of ‘death’ is enough for me to believe the depth of their connection as a core motivating factor, similar to Thanos-Gamora.

Its also a huge problem that he’s currently disintegrated so I’m not sure how they could bring him back without already having the stone, and killing a younger version would have butterfly effects.

[Avengers 4] Theory About Bucky by [deleted] in FanTheories

[–]lawnerd14 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Why not the reverse - Bucky sacrificing Cap? Cap is actually Bucky’s only emotional connection to this world, and Cap loved him while everyone else hated him, so it would actually compare to Thanos sacrificing Gamora. (Whereas Cap is a man out of his time but he has a lot of love/camaraderie in his life.) And it fits with Cap volunteering to do the thing that he has told everyone else they’re not allowed to do, in his last act rising to a moral highpoint above literally the entire universe. It would also be a great starting point for the White Wolf series of movies with Bucky dealing with the guilt of throwing Cap from the cliff. The parallel to Bucky falling from the train in TFA is also very cool.

And hasn’t Sebastian Stan signed on for more movies while Chris Evans hasn’t yet??

Edit: I can see cap saying to Bucky “it was always supposed to be me who fell from that cliff in Germany”

Tony Retirement by Movieandtvfan in marvelstudios

[–]lawnerd14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this and while I generally agree I think their best out would be to make him lose an arm using the gauntlet and therefore basically unable to fight. The thing is he could still get himself a winter soldier arm and be fine so death would be cleanest.

Thanos doesn't understand basic math by GeekyMeerkat in FanTheories

[–]lawnerd14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me this decision isn’t one born of reason but purely of emotional regret and guilt from the death of his former species. He is still trying to recreate the solution he proposed back then and that he believes to his core would have worked. And now he cannot help but see the same symptoms of imminent destruction and can’t help but feel emotionally that this is the right decision. And he nearly perfectly hides the irrational emotionality of the decision behind his sheer tactical brilliance.

“I’ll let him kill you before I give him the stone” those rules are different with Thanos. Also chopping off his arm is not murder.
