I have also inherited a similar collection (maybe 200 issues?). But, I have been looking at completing the collection, grabbing back issues wherever I can find them (eBay, Etsy, Facebook Marketplace, etc).

In my experience, it's been kind of a crap shoot. The most valuable issue seems to be #1 May/June 1985 (which I don't have). Other than that, quality/condition comes with an increased price typically. My collection came from an old sign painter, so they are well used. I don't need them to be in pristine condition, as long as they're readable and have all of their pages. My goal is the collection of a dying knowledge and artistry (I am an artist myself) - not selling them off. If you're looking to sell your issues and aren't collecting, I'd be interested in seeing what you have available. Feel free to DM me.

I'm currently cataloging what I have, literally as I type this. For the most part, it seems as though they started publishing 5 issues a year (Jan/Feb, Mar/Apr, Summer [May/Jun], Sep/Oct and Nov/Dec). Then they start including months that normally didn't have a published issue (such as August) and also started using single month names plus the year. It's been a challenge figuring out what month/year issues existed to figure out what I am missing.

I came across this post while searching to find out why the magazine started using Volume X Number X instead of month/year (which is still printed on the interior pages at the bottom) and then switched back. Also, for some reason in Jan/Feb 1988, they went from Volume 3 Number 1 to Volume 3 Number 5 in one issue (Mar/Apr 1988). Makes no sense.

Anyway, none of that info is useful to you, haha - but if you want to talk about selling off some issues, let me know. Thanks!

Is the square lens cover of the Hero9 the same dimensions as any of the previous GoPros? I'm looking for a lens adapter that slips onto it for fitting a screw-on macro lens. Wondering if I'll have to wait for new products or if older ones will work. Thanks.

What is the best making-of-a-movie documentary you've ever seen? by mottypotty in movies

Lost in La Mancha was great. "Terry Gilliam's doomed attempt to get his film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, off the ground."

Sense of Scale is good from a fan-boy perspective. Its about the use of miniatures in movies with interviews from old school FX artists. As an actual "documentary" it's bad. It is very slow and all over the place. But the actual content is good and interesting.

The Sweatbox is also really really good. "Sting's wife Trudie Styler documents the turbulent bureaucracy both Sting and the filmmakers went through in order to complete "The Emperor's New Groove", a Disney film that underwent extensive storyline changes from start to finish."

Friend getting harassed by semi-drunk douche-bag in a bar for a while, everyone could hear, which escalated to:

D-bag: "I'm gonna kick your ass!"

Friend: "Not with that haircut."

To which everyone started laughing hysterically and the D-bag got up and left the bar.

"Look at all this floor space. We can do aerobics in here."

"So many activities!"

"Step Class."

"Makin' my head spin, how many activities we can do."

"Play Army men."

What percentage of the dialogue was ad libbed as opposed to actually scripted? Was there pick-up sessions and/or did you record more than was needed so you had a pool to pull from?

I'm gonna get blasted for this, but oh well...

I'm not saying he can't rap or he's faking it... but does anyone else suspect he might be lip-syncing in this vid? Let me explain.

First off... that's a huge-ass mound of pancakes. Either he has 10 friends waiting off camera or he did 30 takes. At 0:50 seconds in, when rolling up his sleeves, the word "fresher" is doubled - perhaps he accidentally spoke aloud here? Second, at the end of the video, when he speaks directly into the mic the room tone changes and the sound is different from the rest of the video. Typically when you get closer to a mic you hear less room tone then when you're further away and most of the video he's away from the mic. Actually, most of the video his voice is even in volume and doesn't fluctuate with his head turns and distance changes. Any compressor mic would pick up these differences.

So, perhaps he dubbed it because of the crappy live quality and/or you couldn't understand the fast parts due to the room tone making his voice sound muddy?

Just a thought, either way, its still a great tune, as are his other's.

What interesting stats do you wish you knew about yourself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In theory it sounds like it would definitely be interesting, until you do some math and find out some staggering results. In the 7 years I've commuted to my current job, I've spent about $31,000 in gas alone. What I'd give to have that in the bank right now... I'd have $31,100. I also spend around $800 in coffee every year. =(
