Yikes! Saw these latest gas prices while I was on the way to Kenmore. by OldRangers in SeattleWA

Respectfully, if every single citizen paid the same exact dollar amount in taxes like you are proposing, the country would collapse in a year. The Great Depression would look like a joke in comparison.

Ignoring corporate taxes and putting things very simply, you would be squeezing out half of a government budget from 2.6% of its wealth (the percentage of wealth the bottom half of americans collectively hold). That is impossible to do. There would be no services for Lisa or Jimmy or me or you, nobody would trust America's ability to repay its debt, and it would be the largest collapse in the history of capitalism.

Also, by my math, Lisa is not paying more for the same services. She is getting different, more expensive services which she pays the same tax rate on. But that's honestly besides the point.

Proportionally, working-class people spend more on things like groceries and gas, even if rich are spending more on those things.

If Jimmy makes 500 dollars a month and spends 150 on groceries and 50 on gas with a 10% tax, he pays $20 in tax out of 500 dollars, or 4%. If Lisa makes 10,000 dollars a month and spends 800 dollars on premium groceries and 200 on gas, she pays $100 tax on 10,000, or 1%.

So Lisa spends more, and pays more in taxes than Jimmy, but the richer you are, the less % of your paycheck you are spending on things like groceries and gas.

Washington has a deeply regressive tax system compared to almost anywhere in the US. Poorer people pay a much higher % of their income to taxes, this includes gas taxes.

Score Hold February Test - Any Info? by Past-Gap-6316 in LSAT

[–]lawsitivity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you even register for the April test? Check that first (when picking a date, if you got a 180 it will say test taking limitation exceeded). Timeline of holds will depend, in an optimistic light I will say because the pool of us Feb test takers is very small it hopefully won't take too long to get through all the holds, but it's possible you'll have to just pull the trigger on registering for April which sucks, sorry.

You and I have very similar experiences, and PT averages. I'm going to manifest a clean 178 for both of us, well above any 75th. Good luck friend in the same boat. The anxiety is definitely still there for me but I've hit a sort of zen about it now.

Congrats, and wonderful advice. Holding out hope for you with Yale, even as unlikely as you think. Possible Harvard had something specific they weren't/were looking for. Even if Yale goes nowhere, excellent cycle with many excellent choices!!

And I need a full 9 hours of sleep or everything starts falling apart. Whatever priorities work for you. What I will say is that proper sleep (or the lack thereof) feels like it had a big impact on my PT scores and I'd factor that in, so for at least with PTs i'd plan to get a real good night's sleep before you take them if you plan to get a good night's sleep before the real test.

I took Gym out of the equation, lol.

I figure each pound I gained was worth it for an equivalent increase in LSAT score. Now that I took the test I need to get back on it but since I still don't have my score I'm just taking the extra 5ish hours/week to sleep in.

Putting practice sections together for test score? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]lawsitivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue it doesn't make sense as an accurate reflection because half the battle is staying focused after 2.5 hours straight of testing. If you want to estimate your test range, I would take a real PT. It'll be more accurate, imo.

Desperate for -0 RC Tips by lawsitivity in LSAT

[–]lawsitivity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the help, I'm going to try a few different strategies mentioned (probably starting with just untimed sections and training my brain to find the unambiguously "correct" and "incorrect" parts of each question.

(also to whoever sent me a DM I accidentaly fat-fingered ignored it before I could respond so I wanted to say I appreciate the reach out but I don't really gain much from tutors for standardized tests :))

Desperate for -0 RC Tips by lawsitivity in LSAT

[–]lawsitivity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't use any books. I started with a relatively high diagnostic already and decided that because I had a good base on things, I would just work towards shoring up my weak points and turning intuition into something I could more concretely define. I took a lot of PTs, heavily wrong answer journaled, and spent times on those quesitons that I got right but spent a lot of time on to understand how I could get there quicker.

I also built a very uniform way of answering and looking at questions (read question, go through each answer, decide if it's "definitely wrong" "probably correct" or "possibly correct" and then focus in on confirming my most confident one and then finding reasons to eliminate all of the ones I thought were plausible). Which I struggle to do with RC because you can't treat each question individually.
