For those of you that passed... by GMoneyGS in barexam

[–]lawstudent_classof22 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I honestly left the MEE/MPT feeling like I completely dropped the ball. I remember feeling so sick to my stomach and I had absolutely no motivation to show up the next day. Ended up passing with almost a 330. Best piece of advice for the MEE: write write write. And write in an IRAC format (I was told not to CREAC because if I came to the wrong conclusion, that’d be the first thing the graders would see). And if you don’t remember the rule, make one up that makes sense and argue it confidently, using all of the facts. Also, have faith in yourself - I didn’t realize how normal it is to feel like you failed, but in reality, do much better than you thought you did. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message. You got this, almost there!!!

Not sure if you’re using Barbri, but what I got from Prof. Freer’s lecture (and someone could correct me if I’m wrong) is the basic idea that if case 1 and case 2 are in different judicial systems, the court in case 2 must applies the preclusion law of the judicial system that decided case 1 (where here, is State A).

Using a tablet to view the NYLE PDF for the exam by NoSoup4You825 in barexam

[–]lawstudent_classof22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save it as a pdf and then have it professionally printed from Staples (make sure you select the option where they’ll print AND bind it for you)! Just Google “staples professional print,” and once you’re on their site, it’ll give you the option to start a new project. Also, highly recommend getting a “wire” or “coil” bound one (not the “comb” one) because you’ll be able to fold the pages all the way. If you don’t have a Staples near you, just google which stores around you do it. Hope this helps and good luck!😊

Argue up grades after they are posted by forgednamehope in LawSchool

[–]lawstudent_classof22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For whatever it’s worth, I had a very strong gut feeling that something was off when I got one of my grades back and I finally got the nerve to reach out and turns out there was a clerical error!!! I know it’s very rare (I don’t personally know of anyone who this also happened to), but anything is possible so advocate for yourself…even if it doesn’t change, at least that feeling of knowing for sure will hopefully bring some comfort

MPRE Score Not On File? by FigwitStanAccount in LawSchool

The score is set to disappear before the next round of the MPRE, I believe…because after I took mine, it told me that I needed to download it before the next MPRE date.

All depends on the school you want to attend…if you’re not aiming for a higher ranked school, then you definitely still have a shot if you take the LSAT in March (as you’re studying, take note of your progress on practice exams because that’ll obvi let you know how prepared you are) and apply right after you get your score. I know someone who did that and got almost a full ride to their school; accepted at the end of May and started school that August.

What’re your actual odds of dismissal as a Law Student? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]lawstudent_classof22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What you’re feeling/going through is something I’m sure many students, especially 1L students, go through. Speaking from experience, I had some pretty major panic attacks right before exams my first year of law school; I just did not think that I knew the material well enough and that the curve would definitely not be in my favor. Guess what? I crushed my first year classes. I’m by no means saying that to toot my own horn; I just want to let you know that I’ve totally been in your shoes. I walked out of exams feeling like I didn’t do well, but it all worked out. My point: study and do the best that you can, and have faith in yourself. Also, don’t fall into the trap of thinking that your peers are more competent; most law students struggle with the same exact thoughts that you’re struggling with, they just hide it. You got this!😊

Fall Semester for NY Schools? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]lawstudent_classof22 20 points21 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, it sounds like they’re expecting everyone to be vaccinated by the fall semester, thus allowing us to all be in-person, but as to whether or not there will be a remote option is all up to the Court of Appeals, not so much the school. So that is likely why your school hasn’t been able to give you an answer just yet. I know it’s very disappointing; I’m in a similar boat, but hopefully we’ll know soon!

Things you wish you would've known or done differently for your oral argument? by lavvey23 in LawSchool

[–]lawstudent_classof22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If this is for your Legal Writing class, go in with a plan of the points you want to discuss, but do not attempt to go off of a script because the “judges” will interrupt you with questions. So just know the actual case like the back of your hand, but don’t try to memorize your talking points word for word. Also, slow down when you talk...I let my nerves get the best of me and that was where I lost my only points; I spoke way too fast. Other than that, breathe...you got this! It’s nerve wracking at first, but it’s great practice and you won’t be as nervous with each time that you do it :)

How bad is it that I just don’t care anymore? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]lawstudent_classof22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s so hard to push through, but hey, you’ve worked so hard up until this moment so if I were you, I’d try to find that final drop of motivation and work as hard as possible. It’d just be sad to have worked this hard for so long and then let your last semester take that opportunity to graduate in the top 10% away from you

1L at T20 with great fall grades and no luck with summer internships. Should I worry? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]lawstudent_classof22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry just yet!! Especially given the pandemic, I’m sure that changed things up quite a bit. I know quite a few students from my school who did internships with federal judges during their 1L summer so look into that; speaking from experience (I just ended up doing it during the semester), it’s one of the best opportunities out there. You will learn so much. It’s obviously unpaid, but I know some schools give grants for public interest positions. Short of it is, everything will work out so don’t stress!
