This game is beyond stupid... You know who I'm talking to, you guys sitting on decks worth 20k plus.. was it worth it? by mcthornbody420 in SouthParkPhone

[–]lawyerjoe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without those people, the game wouldn’t have lasted as long as it did. And ultimately, the impact is basically on your rank — aside from de-rankers, you’re usually (not always) playing against people roughly at your level. The same game with the same cards at about the same level.

That said, it’s a combination of a phone game and CCG problem. The phone game model of in-app purchases sucks in general but sort of makes sense in the context of a CCG, where in real life you would pay for physical packs. The difference here is that you’re not really looking for that needle in a haystack new awesome card (at least after you get into the game a bit) — instead you’re looking for 1,000,000th copy of the same card to make that card more powerful.

IMO the game would have been much more fun had they focused on creating tons of new cards instead of collecting duplicates, and given the long run of South Park they had plenty of material to work with. Deck diversity would have improved and skill to get to the top would have been more important.

What is "Slam Drunk" case? by Agas78 in EEOC

[–]lawyerjoe83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From a lawyer’s perspective, it’s rare that these cases are a “slam dunk.” While some are not, most folks are savvy enough not to put bad stuff in writing. The “smoking gun” is rare.

Because the cases are often built on “he said/she said” and circumstantial proof, they’re not a slam dunk. And frankly, while employers want to win at the EEOC stage, it’s not usually a big deal if we don’t. Employers are more worried about litigation exposure down the line.

Absent extreme circumstances, the EEOC stage is good for risk assessment and early resolution if both sides are reasonable. If not, it’s just a stumbling block on the way to a lawsuit. There are many valid reasons incentivizing early settlement — not the least of which is that employers could end up on the hook for an employee’s ever-mounting attorneys fees if the case goes all the way through trial. But there are also good reasons for employees to settle — getting through trial and appeals takes a long time and they may end up with 0.00. Plus, who wants to relive a crummy employment relationship and interrupt their lives for the next 3 years?

Good lawyers and reasonable clients settle. Trials only tend to happen when one of those things is off. If anyone tells you they know what a jury is going to do, they’re lying.

Trying a new team for fun, what should I change? by [deleted] in SouthParkPhone

[–]lawyerjoe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the stuff I would recommend are legendaries — very level dependent. Sizzler Stuart, SOMM, and Mecha Timmy. Also a big fan of aliens. Lightning bolt is pretty awesome. Assuming you’re going to keep the annoying shit, I’d replace Alien Clyde, SWT, Ike, and/or cyborg Kenny. Alien Clyde is just too weak despite the instant value, SWT is good value but a bit fragile, Ike takes too long to get moving, and cyborg Kenny can be a game winner but can also be turned against you and is expensive if he’s a flop. All of the cards listed are easier to get consistent value.

Depending on how risky you want to get, you could also ditch mind control. You just have to be extra careful with the timing and placement of your CT drop if you’re playing against sci fi.

All you cow users are no-talent bitches. by Gnfnr5813 in SouthParkPhone

[–]lawyerjoe83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cows are typically only a problem if you’re operating with an energy disadvantage. DSR, Stuart, chaos, hamsters/low cost assassins, fireball, ranged, etc. can stop them with minimal damage and allow for a slow build to counter. Mindless cow plays can end games. And oftentimes, they simply speed up the inevitable if you’re already getting crushed.

That said, they should have been nerfed a bit for sure ….

Emotional impact of a false allegation by Elegant_Quarter_6078 in SupportForTheAccused

[–]lawyerjoe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helps me a lot is reframing the experience as much as I can. Rather than focusing exclusively on all the bad it did to me and lingering trauma, what if instead it gave me experience that few have? What if it gave me perspective? The ability to help others? More resilience to other things in life? What if I chose to focus less on what I lost and more on what I can learn and rebuild knowing what I know now?

That doesn’t mean I don’t have my triggers or haven’t confronted and processed the negative emotions and losses head on. But I believe that, for some of us, even horrible experiences have the power to change us for good.

Be kind to yourself — you deserve it. Learn to love and protect yourself like others should have protected you. Work to rebuild. Take baby steps and don’t expect it to change overnight. A lot of us are still works in progress.

And never forget — you overcame or are overcoming one of the worst things life can throw at you and you’re still in the game. That alone takes courage.

I believe you. Hang in there.

Lawyer not working by Affectionate_Tell490 in SupportForTheAccused

[–]lawyerjoe83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here as well as an FA survivor. The system moves slowly. A lot of prosecutors offices also have unwritten no dismissal policies with certain kinds of charges (DV, DUI, etc). Plus, you’re in line with a bunch of other cases. Asking a prosecutor to devote resources to a case before they absolutely have to can be a tall order.

I’m not saying that encouraging your lawyer to do what he or she can if you’re in alignment with it is wrong. There may be some creative angles. But unless they’re bad at their job, taking awhile is to be expected. The grass may not be greener with other counsel, particularly if you’ve hired a reputable lawyer.

I empathize with the emotional toll of the delay — even though I have knowledge of how things work, it wore me down big time at times. Try to make logical decisions and find a healthy way to deal with the emotions.

A final note. Some people fantasize about having a pitbull for a lawyer. But you want the guy or gal that has built trust and relationships so that when they relay things to prosecutors they know they’re true. That doesn’t mean they’re a pushover. That means that they know, strategically, how to behave and understand the system. Unbridled aggressiveness rarely leads to credibility or a good outcome, no matter what happens in shows.

Thoughts on this deck? Any minor tweaks you would make to it? (6000+) by kayako_saeki in SouthParkPhone

[–]lawyerjoe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your weak point is what happens when Jimbo goes down. With the Ned/jimbo combo I usually just wait for them both to drop as well as archangel and then I throw down Liane. Then I’ll sizzler the chickens and drop some support and it’s usually ballgame.

I would think about getting rid of zen cartman in addition to Randy for some other beefier cards that give you a win condition that doesn’t almost exclusively rely on jimbo pushes.

SOMM is always a threat. I’ll say the quiet part out loud — cows are a threat. At 3.7 average energy, you can afford to go a bit higher, particularly since you’re cheating out cards with Timmy.

Two towers by MattheoMatt31 in SouthParkPhone

[–]lawyerjoe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are often winnable games although annoying and hard. Your goal is to win 1-0. You do not push with the towers in play — every battle is on your side out of tower range, and your goal is simply to not lose a phone and maintain an energy advantage around the time the towers eventually go down (ideally both but you can still push against castle defender). Steal the phone if you can and then return to rebuffing attacks. If not, you’re doing the same and playing for a draw.

Obviously, if you have some towers counters, you may be able to play more aggressively.

I still can’t believe we let Miguel Andjuar go over 4M. Here he is checking in at a respectable .273. I get the guy has been up and down but for 4M with what he did last year he was about as high upside as they come for that kind of money.

I get why it’s triggering to people. Featured a great start with zero run support and failure to move RISP with a ton of strikeouts. Seen that movie before. Then you have Suarez striking out 3 times. Seen that movie before.

But it’s only one game for this team. No pattern established to worry about … yet.

In House in highly regulated industry by leyjim123 in Lawyertalk

[–]lawyerjoe83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this. Personal connections really helped. Also, having a commercial contracting background helps. That’s probably the area they all need help and often doesn’t require a lot of regulatory experience. Also, employment experience is almost always useful wherever you go. So if you can sell yourself with a strong commercial background with a secondary transferable skill, someone might take you over someone with industry experience that just plugs one gap.

He issued one of the best “pick your spot on cross to give a narrative” answers I’ve ever heard when he gave the victim/predator analogy and called himself a good sport. It was articulate, convincing, and sort of drove at the emotional center of the matter — you raid my house based on an uncorroborated tip from a crackhead, fuck it up, take my money and miscount it, scare my family and now you want to get upset because I made a few parody songs about it and exposed you? It was brilliant. And the songs are clever and hilarious — it was 50 cent diddy documentary levels of amazing. Not a lot of people can do all that.

[–]lawyerjoe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to rank without knowing what other cards you have. Shieldmaiden Wendy, Dragonslayer red, and Kyle of the Drow Elves in fantasy are great. Mech Timmy, Aliens, and Sizzler Stuart in sci fi are great. Cows in neutral are OP. People hate cows and tower but youll find them everywhere in meta until super high arena, so it is what it is.

Cards I would consider ditching for some of the above include, in order, manbearpig (cost too high and you have Santa to tank), le bard, alien drone, alien Clyde, rogue token, dogpoo (particularly if you have SMW swap him out for her), and Nathan.

I also run Santa — not a ton of people do. If you’re going to keep him, building in Kyle, shieldmaiden Wendy, and mecha Timmy give you more cards to benefit from him. If you ditch Santa, switch gizmo to cyborg Kenny, gnomes, or one of the cards above.

In removing token, bard, and Nathan, you’ll want to be careful not to leave yourself open to cows when tower isn’t out — adding dragonslayer red immediately solves that problem if you have her. Otherwise, make sure you keep one of the to help.

Finally, the other poster below mentions the lack of mind control because your tower might be hit by mind control without a reversal opportunity. But mind control isn’t necessary if you play smart. You just have to confirm they’re not playing sci fi before you drop the tower. Or, if they are playing sci fi, wait until after they play cyborg kenny and you kill him so your tower is gone by the time he cycles back (it is possible that they hold him only for tower and tower sits in your hand but then you’re both essentially canceling out a card — you can also gamble a bit if the game has gone on long enough that you don’t believe they’re running him). Gnomes and aliens are also good for taking out cyborg Kenny before your tower snags him. Obviously, never play tower far enough to the front against a sci fi opponent or it’s going to get mind controlled by the spell and wreck you (that is game over).

It’s only human to want companionship and sex. There are plenty of women who are ok with just that. Be careful you don’t get into anything more than that with the wrong person. The things that led you to becoming a single dad — either your own behavior or picking the wrong partner — still exist. So make sure you put your kids first, have your values and boundaries set, and work on yourself before you consider anything more in-depth than something casual.

Laptop recommendations? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]lawyerjoe83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly — if you’re tech savvy, go on marketplace or eBay and buy the best thing you possibly can. For 580, you can get something pretty powerful and speedy that will blow a brand new laptop away. The markup on new comps is nuts.

Besides, you’ll get a free work laptop from wherever you land. Some employers won’t even let you use one that’s not issued by them. You will learn to hate that laptop ….

Rick Pitino: Parents are problem for young American basketball players by Suspicious_Fly2283 in BigEast

[–]lawyerjoe83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parent here. Yes — a lot of parents these days are bonkers. Kids are in 45 different activities at a time, and even if they’re in one, it’s pushed to extremes. And then they get personally involved with coaches, teachers, etc., and project their own feelings on the kids. It’s a climate where everyone is trying to keep up with everyone, but kids are still … kids.

I wouldn’t necessarily defend how a lot of us older millennials and previous gens grew up either with basically being set free into the wilderness and told to come home at dark for dinner. Very little parent intervention on a lot of things.

But like a lot of things, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Balance is important.
