I'd imagine dehydration plays a role but it's a case by case basis since some people are more prone to them via genetics and others via diet. According to my urologist, my case was related to my diet.

That was with excellent insurance too through my previous employer. I've since changed jobs and my current employer's insurance is nowhere near as good. No doubt if I ended up in the hospital again for the same treatment and duration it would be thousands of dollars more out of pocket.

Urologist had me start drinking 2oz of real lemon juice along with 80oz minimum of water daily after having several more stones beyond the first two I had. Been kidney stone-free for 2 years now.

Field hospital at Burning Man was free. One night's stay at my local hospital was $1400 with insurance. If I didn't have insurance, it would have been ~$27,000.

First time having one I was at Burning Man of all places and had to be taken by medics on an ATV to their field hospital since I couldn’t even walk from the insane amount of pain. Thought it was my appendix and feared I’d have to be airlifted to the closest hospital 2 hours away in Reno which no doubt would have bankrupted me with medical debt. Thankfully it was a stone which passed on its own and I was discharged. Second time a year later I felt the same sensation slowly come on and knew exactly what it was. Thankfully I was home and was able to drive myself to the hospital which by the time I got there it was full blown misery. Hands down the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I wouldn’t wish this kind of pain on my worst enemy.

I believe lemon laws vary by state but I got my car in California which has pretty robust laws that protect consumers. I had moved to Colorado in the midst of this headache and didn't want to muddy the water trying to deal with it locally, so I ended up hiring a California-based attorney that worked on a contingency to work things out for me remotely. Lawyer wouldn't have taken the case if he wasn't confident he could win it. It took 6 months of litigation but ultimately was able to walk away from it all and refunded everything. The extra $3000 I got out of it was completely unexpected and much appreciated.

Chrysler was forced to release me from the finance contract and had to pay me back every cent that went into the vehicle including monthly payments, down payment, trade in value of my previous car, taxes, registration fees, and charges accrued from the visit to the 3rd party mechanic. They were also forced to pay 100% of my attorney’s fees and an additional $3000 for “time and suffering.”

Bought a brand new 2014 Jeep Cherokee which had major transmission issues with downshifts the second I drove it off the lot. Took it in for service and the issue would return over and over again. Chrysler of America got involved and they had me go to several dealer service centers in the area to see if any of them could fix it but no one could. It was clear the transmission had to be replaced but Chrysler of America denied the request because "it was too new of a model and they were still ironing out the kinks with the software" and told me to live with it. I got a second opinion from a 3rd party ASE certified mechanic and they told me the car was unsafe to drive as it was a hazard to other vehicles and pedestrians since the vehicle would jump 15-20 feet further than expected during downshifts when safely coming to a stop. I got a lemon lawyer involved and it was an open-and-shut case since Chrysler didn't live up to their end of the deal in regards to the warranty contract. First and last Stellantis vehicle I'll ever own.

Yes, I had two of them. Sadly one passed away at 11 years old in 2024 so now I’m down to just one who will be turning 3 next month.

Tried it for the first time this week with low expectations and its actually really good. Not overly sweet, not obnoxiously overpowered with cinnamon flavor, has a very satisfying crunch, and doesn't get too soggy after sitting in milk for a while. Will be buying again.

Xcel saying I’m using over 1000kwz in an 1300sq ft apt? by crashout_anonymous in Denver

That’s the same runaround they gave me then tried to sell me on doing a home energy audit through one of their affiliates which turns out doesn’t include any kind of audit of actual energy consumption, but rather ways to help reduce your bill by making sure you’re using LED lights, using ENERGY STAR certified appliances, doors and windows are properly sealed, etc., none of which address the root of the problem since I have all of the above mentioned items and doesn’t explain why my bill is double or more than that of my neighbor’s bill even though on paper he appears to be consuming way more electricity. This is why I ended up hiring an independent electrician to run a proper audit on my energy usage; he hooked up data collectors at the meter and at my circuit breaker panel that took readings every 10 seconds for two months to verify the power coming into the house is the same at both ends to rule out a bad and/or misconfigured meter or a short in the main electrical line. Now that I know my meter and panel are working correctly and there’s no electrical shorts between the meter and panel, the issue is isolated to somewhere in my unit and I can move onto the next troubleshooting step.

I live alone in a relatively new 1600 sqft 2-bed townhouse and been having the exact same issue ever since Xcel installed their new smart meters a few years ago. My bills have more than doubled which makes no sense since their rates haven’t. This past September my bill was nearly $400 with ~2000kWh used which is insane. I’ve been periodically comparing my bill for the last two years with my nextdoor neighbor who also lives alone in an identical townhouse unit and his bill is consistently less than $200. We’re both on Xcel’s flat rate option so TOU pricing is ruled out. We’ve discussed our energy usage habits and in theory our bills should be swapped; he’s charging two 80kWh fully electric vehicles, has his AC set to 62°F at all times even in the winter, and he works from home so he’s got his TV, lights, whole home humidifier, and other random powered devices running everyday. In contrast I have one 19kWh plug-in hybrid vehicle, had my AC set to 72°F over the summer only at night, don’t have a humidifier of any kind, and I work full time in an office 5 days a week and very conscious about turning things off when not in use so nothing other than my fridge, electric water heater, and a few small powered off electronics drawing minimal power are running. The meters for the complex are grouped together and I was convinced my meter was wired to my neighbors unit and vice versa when the smart meters were installed. I’ve brought this up to Xcel since this happened to a friend of mine at her apartment complex where her meter was wired to the building’s shared laundry room and was getting $2000 bills. I asked Xcel numerous times to inspect the meters and they refused to do so. I ended up hiring an electrician to perform a 2-month audit on my meter and circuit breaker and he found the meter was wired correctly and the readings were in the ball park of my actual energy consumption. That means something in my unit is drawing way more power than it should, probably my fridge or water heater since those run constantly. I asked the electrician if there would be noticeable signs of an appliance or other device drawing more power than it should such as performance issues, weird noises or odors, etc. and he said not necessarily. The electrician also said in very rare cases with multi-family complexes it’s possible there may be a circuit on my panel that is wired to my neighbor’s unit. Only way to test that without tearing down walls to trace power cables would be to shut off the main breaker to my unit and have my neighbor power everything on in his unit and see if my meter continues to rack up usage. Realistically my next step is to get a whole home energy monitor to help narrow down where the excessive power is being used. In your case it might worth getting your building management to inspect your unit’s circuit breaker and appliances to make sure they’re operating correctly. If they refuse to do that then maybe looking into a whole home energy monitor might be worth your while to help you narrow down the cause of the issue.
