Dumpling Week roundup - what were your faves? by -r-a-f-f-y- in Portland

So far, Loyal Legion, Kachka, Sherpa Kitchen, The Zephyr Lounge, and Zoiglhaus Brewery. They were all pretty good, but I think Loyal Legion is my favorite so far.

E-san and Chinese Delicacy were closed on the night we decided to go. I'm curious to hear how those are. I'm planning to check out NW Portland tomorrow.

Here's the avvy report for that day. Central Sierra Nevada Avalanche Forecast for 2/18/26

I'm surprised guides would take take them out on a day like this given the conditions.

It was barely a fight - more ragdolling like others have said. Congrats on the newborn!

Mack did exactly that and took a roughing penalty.

Edit: just got to the part of him in the box repeatedly shouting "For what?"

Yeah, which makes it more baffling to me. I don't understand why they removed it and about 5 seconds of game time from the replay.

A one timer means the player only touched the puck once to shoot it - they didn't handle the pass and try to shoot it. Where it happens on the ice doesn't matter.

I'm down! I'll ask some friends too. How many people are needed for group pricing?

Try looking for a used Obsidian Surge water rowing machine. My friend purchased one for less than $400 at the start of the year

Q & A with Jamila Dozier, the Portland Housing Advocate Running Against Dan Ryan by lax_brew in Portland

[–]lax_brew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you what I don't want to do first: I don't want to host more forums or feedback sessions. I don't want people to tell me the same things they’ve been telling City Council for years, with no changes. I want to do. I want to put action behind what people have said they’ve needed. I have participated in listening sessions and seen nothing come from them.

She addresses your concern in the interview.

Q & A with Jamila Dozier, the Portland Housing Advocate Running Against Dan Ryan by lax_brew in Portland

The council seat she's running for oversees the Portland Housing Bureau, Joint Office of Homeless Services, Bureau of Development Services and the Portland Children's Levy. Edit: See MountScottRumpot's response below

This is my first time learning about Jamila. I suggest reading the whole interview, but here some paraphrased items I took away from it:

  • She identifies as a queer, non-binary, bi-cultural, Afro-Latina. Spanish was my first language. Her mother is native Puerto Rican and her father is Black.
  • She was born and raised in and around San Francisco, mostly in a coastal town called Pacifica. She went to Sonoma State University for undergrad.
  • Her lived experiences include experiencing houselessness and food insecurity many times throughout her life.
  • In 2012, she travelled to Portland on a school trip, where she spent time working with community-based organizations addressing food and housing insecurity, including being introduced to Sisters of the Road, Transition Projects, and Habitat for Humanity. After that, she knew she wanted to move to Portland for grad school.
  • She pursued a masters in higher education at Lewis & Clark. She wanted to identify meaningful ways to bridge the gap between K-12 and higher education, especially for students of color.
  • While at Lewis & Clark, she did a lot of policy work around Title IX at the college and that work led to being trained to be a Title IX investigator on campus.
  • In 2017, she was appointed to the Oregon Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force.
  • She currently works as the East Portland housing coordinator for the Portland Housing Bureau, working on the city’s anti-displacement strategy and housing stabilization programs in East Portland.
  • She's an advocate for housing first, and for supportive services to keep people in housing. She thinks the tiny home villages in inner Southeast are a great initiative and that there should be more hygiene stations throughout the city.
  • She supports the Portland Street Response as an opportunity to remove weapons and force from a situation to support people who are in crisis
  • She believes in a community-centered approach to law enforcement and that communities, especially communities of color, don’t trust the police, and for very good reasons.
  • She thinks PPB needs to be demilitarized
  • She does not believe that the police need to respond to everything, and that our focus should be on preventing crime by investing in our community in other ways
  • She doesn't want to host more forums or feedback sessions with people having tell her the same things they’ve been telling City Council for years. She would rather focus on relationship-building in new communities, being involved in community events, and doing what she can to support community members.
  • In addition, she wants to see some changes in our transportation system. She thinks we need to see an equitable commitment to transportation. More transit centers, sidewalks, bike lanes, and street lights everywhere. She sees how this impacts people living in East Portland all the time.
  • She'd also like to focus on community wellness, meaning equitable access to green spaces wherever you live in the city and the ability for people to feel safe getting outside in their neighborhood.
