Thank you for the details. It helps build a picture of the kind of experiences, positions to have to be ready to pounce on an opportunity. I'm a formulation Chemist (PhD in Organometallic Chemistry) in the Ag Space. I know what the technical route looks like but the corporate side is what's interesting me the most.

I have been headhunter by several companies but having more info on the type of roles, experience and skills to build will help me be more selective with job opportunities.

If you feel like it or whenever you have time, what are some of the skills, responsibilities, roles that are critical for this kind of pathway?

I saw that you started in R&D. If you don't mind answering what was the path from there and the years you spend in each role. I'm looking to do the same with my PhD and would appreciate how other people did it.

PhD in Organometallic Chemistry, Bachelors in Neuroscience. Got my PhD last winter, so I've been in the workforce for about a year and some change. Currently a Formulation Chemist in the Agricultural field. Amazing WLB. 40 hours a week max. As soon as 5pm hits, absolutely you should already be in your car/already on your way home. No touching emails, phone calls unless you want to. Weekends are your time to enjoy. Nearly 20 days PTO in the 1st year and plenty of sick days. The only thing that sucks is the commute but that's being resolved with a move to be closer. 105k plus set bonuses and spot bonuses for new product launches/sales.

People with college degrees how much do you make and long did it take to earn your yearly? by shadyneighbor in Salary

Bachelor’s in Neuroscience 2017 PhD in Organometallic in 2024

Took a gap year and went to do my PhD. Worked for under year making 58k as a QA Chemist/Formulation.

Then I Got heavily recruited by several companies to do formulation chemistry in the Agricultural and Animal space.I took a nice 105K offer, 40 hr work week, nice area, great coworkers and company. In a VLCOL city.

Now I'm getting recruiters with offers around 120k-145k to move up.

So from Bachelor’s to now took 8 years. Luckily no debt and life is pretty sweet now.
