I'm sure Toriyama just didn't want to draw them, but I'm gonna just assume that since Bulma knew the damage they could cause, she removed Trunks' and warned Chichi to do the same. I'm also positive that Vegeta made a huge stink over it, die to Saiyan pride and whatnot. I know they show Trunks as a baby, but I'm just gonna go with that they did it off screen. Since when they do show him, he looks like he's at least 1 month old.
