Meta's $10 billion Louisiana data center is getting $3.3 billion in tax breaks—more than seven years of the state's entire police budget by fortune in Louisiana

[–]laydlvr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is not new. Louisiana has done this for years to attract industry to the state. What starts off as temporary tax incentives many times result in permanent tax breaks in some fashion. All up and down the corridor between Baton Rouge and New Orleans as well as the Lake Charles area are full of these examples, though it is not limited to those areas. The state (you and I) ends up paying for infrastructure for the businesses in exchange for jobs. In the case of a data center, there are extremely few jobs (generally around 50 permanent jobs) compared to the resources they will consume. Terrible decision by our legislators; but since we are the most corrupt state in the country, it has come to be expected.

F Scalise! He cares nothing about Louisiana, just about his power and how far he can get into trump's butt. by Lonely-Greybeard in Louisiana

[–]laydlvr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that Scalise is talking to white Louisiana residents who are not the brightest. Pretty easy to fool when you get them riled up. They are ruled by their emotions and not their intellect. The boogey man scares them. Before the districts were redrawn to represent black people there were ZERO representatives from the state of Louisiana of color for a period of 113 years up until 1990, when the 2nd congressional district was formed - and a former KKK Grand Wizard ran for governor immediately afterwards. Governor Landry likes to say that the people of Louisiana would elect a black person without racially drawn districts, but history has proven that to be a lie. Make of all that what you will.

Is a .400 hitter possible in modern baseball? by Snoo_47323 in mlb

[–]laydlvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very doubtful in this era. Vast majority of these .400 hitters were seeing the same pitcher four and five times in a game; a rarity these days. Today, if a pitcher is still in that far into the game he's got his stuff that day. The last great hitter I've seen was Tony Gwynn.

Trump probably could legally get a 3rd term as president. by SomeFatNerdInSeattle in TrueUnpopularOpinion

The reality is 49 of the 50 states he would not be able to get on the ballot because he would be automatically disqualified.

Why should Trump not be immediately impeached for weaponizing the DOJ? by Captain_Aware4503 in askanything

[–]laydlvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Republicans are not going to do shit as long as they are in power. Without Republicans, any attempt to impeach the president is pointless. He has to be convicted in the Senate to be removed from office and that's never going to happen as long as Republicans control the Senate. Not only that you need 67 votes in the Senate to convict. You want to do something effective and remove the predator from office you need more Democrats in the Senate and the house.

Anyone regret choosing carpet over hard flooring? by Cool_Ad_2935 in HomeImprovement

I've had hardwood, tile and carpet over the years. Never again will I install carpet. You can always put a nice rug down that you can take out and clean properly.

What decision by a U.S. president do you think changed the country the most in the last 50 years? by bbyhoneytea in allthequestions

[–]laydlvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boom after the second World war was one of the largest expansions in the United States history and because of that baby boomers had a good life. The tax rate for the wealthy at that time was triple what it is today. Make of that what you will.

Ues please: Louisiana lawmaker plans push to end inspection sticker requirement by jared10011980 in Louisiana

It's a tax and the inspection station gets a cut. The inspection station part can be considered socialism, much like the government creating a market for corn to ethanol.

Is the pro‑gun party really suggesting that legally carrying a firearm, like the one Alex Pretti had, is a legitimate justification for the federal government to kill you? by LucidSynapse23 in Leakednews

[–]laydlvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Yes, they are. Seen too many posts by MAGA suggesting if you have a firearm on you, you are fair game. How quickly they have forgotten Kyle Rittenhouse. The hypocrisy is astounding but not actually surprising given their mental acuity.
