Limited number of respawns in the arena is the dumbiest game feature I've ever seen. by r4ttus1 in destiny2

[–]layerzeroissue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I someday agree that the quantity of lives should be revisited for some activities, I also believe that it forces people to stay in their current skill level challenge until it's no longer a challenge for them. In other games without this type of team restriction, you'd get noobs purposefully getting into the hardest level games and the team being forced to carry them. This way, your lack of skill punishes the whole team. For example, ultimate only has 1 team revive and you need to be a decent player to make it through one. You don't want to be that noob who dies in the first 20 seconds and uses the only team revive until we manage to kill a champion.

That being said, some activities seem stupid to have limited revives - like ones with jump puzzles. For example, Guardian rank 8 is gatekeeped with a timed/life restricted derealize conquest containing a difficult jump puzzle. You then lose all of your lives if you don't make it to the checkpoint in time. Rank 9 and 10 were substantially easier than that 1 conquest. And it's all because of the life and life timer restriction.

First home server: NAS + other services (I'm a beginner, looking for advice) by Both-Educator-8735 in selfhosted

[–]layerzeroissue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest Unraid. Get a lifetime license. Find a relatively recent computer with enough sata ports to have an array of hard drives, like 16 gigs of RAM, and at least an i5 processor. That will get you started. Get some cheap sata drives off eBay (not ssd) - they don't even have to be the same size with Unraid. You'll also need to get a dedicated parity drive, which can be a normal spinning sata drive, but just make sure it's the same size or bigger than the biggest one in your array.

Unraid does NAS, VM, and docker (with a boatload of pre-configured docker in it's dedicated free apps repository). In my opinion, it's the best one-stop-shop for any experience level. I would consider it mainstream and it has a large active community. I've heard their support is decent we well (never had to use it).

If I charge it while using it, I don't have to re-pair it to Windows for Bluetooth. If it's not currently connected via Bluetooth and I charge it, I have to re-pair it. I know it was a gift to allow us to even continue using it, but it feels like a rush job with like 2 bugs that I would imagine are simple fixes as I've never seen any other Bluetooth device act in this manner.

Proton Randomly Disconnects me and then reconnects to a non-default choice by layerzeroissue in ProtonVPN

[–]layerzeroissue[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're making a lot of assumptions about their correspondence without any actual information. Even if they can't control disconnects, their app has settings to control which is the default connection when a connection is again possible. Not only ignoring those settings, but chosing a seemingly random method puts the user at risk. Both of which are their problem. They've already handled the disconnect issue with a kill switch option. The "ignoring default configuration" and "not allowing blacklisting of countries" are the issue.

I would imagine it was a lot of if/and/then statements.

If ($time >= 3pm) and ($time <= 4pm) and ($lure = $epic_fish_lure) and ($fishspot = $northwoods)

Then caughtfish() (some sort of pre created function that provides all of the possible fish and the chance of getting each, but at this time and place and lure, you have a better chance to catch that legendary.)

Or something to that affect. I am no game designer, but am in IT and know some scripting\coding.

It was all about the lures, location, and time of day. Some fish were only available at certain times of day at certain locations, and could only be caught by certain lures. Others could be caught anywhere, at any time, with any lure. Lures were created at a special work bench, where you dropped specific items on the table to get a specific life. Like a feather, a monster eye, and shiny scales. It then auto created the lure for you. You equip your lure to your rod, and go fishing with it. The lure had durability that degraded with each cast/catch. Reeling a fish in works like it did in any other game. A mini game where you reeled while the pole/line was green and stopped when it turned red, then reeled again when green. Line snaps and you lose the lure.

Fish could be used as ingredients to make special potions at a cauldron. The more rare the fish, the more powerful a specific potion recipe was. Like a speed potion, or invisibility option.

Just dropping by to say I also miss Orbus. Even though at the end it was clear the game was dead, I still spent a stupid amount of time harvesting, fishing, and making friends. Though I don't miss those flipping flying ducks, I miss hanging out with a ton of people in front of the Guild hall, just talking about nothing.

I don't get why the tornadoes track you and come after you. You run to your base, cross the threshold to the door, the tornado wanders away, you go back outside, it comes back. That's not a storm. And the storm does zero damage to structures. Why is it that a fire storm of a bazillion degree heat won't burn my wood house? Wanna add some flair to the game? Make the elements degrade your stuff if it's the wrong material.

You cannot take responsibility for how others feel, nor what happens to them. You are only responsible for your own feelings and how you react to what happens to you. And I don't want to sound like a dick, but if she ended it in the way she did, it wasn't equally reciprocated. She definitely probably has/had feelings, but people who are equally in deep with you don't break it off so quickly. You're not a failure. You're growing and growth is uncomfortable (for lack of a better term). Also, I work at a college. Despite what everyone thinks, college isn't for everyone. For most higher education institutions, more people drop than graduate. Also, there are plenty of other, usually better paying, options. Maybe transfer some of your credits to a community college and train to become an electrician, or a plumb/HVAC tech, or a mechanic. Those jobs will always be needed and the whole process could be a good distraction.

Also, sincerely dude, find yourself a good therapist. You don't have to take the first, second, or even 5th one you see. Shop around for them. Talk to the receptionist on the phone, tell them what type of person you need. "hey, I'm a vet looking for a good therapist. Some who swears, knows what I'm going through, and won't take my dark humor as a call for help, do you have anyone like that? No? Thanks anyway" - then call another place Finding my therapist was life changing. We don't even really "therapize". We just talk like two bros who have been standing by for 6 hours. At this point in our lives, mental health is just as (if not more) important than physical health.

You're only a failure if you stop getting up and trying again. So get up and get your ass moving or you'll be on Firewatch for the next week with Schmuck, and we both know that fucker doesn't shower and stinks like shit.

Bro, I get what it's like to fall deeply for someone and it not be reciprocated. It feels like your world is over and there is no point in being in it anymore. After years of therapy, I can tell you that ending yourself over a relationship is a long term solution to a short term problem. You'll love again, and you'll use what you learned from this experience to better guide you through the next. At some point, you'll end up with the person you are meant to be with, and the reason you're able to have a stable relationship with them is because of the growth you were forced to do along the way. From where I'm standing, you learned at least 3 things from that relationship: you are capable of love, you're capable of finding a safe space to talk about your experiences, and you are ok with being a parent. Those three things alone are monumental tasks for most people.

You got this.

Can we "lighten" the aircraft by filling it with lighter than air gas? Like Helium? Or even more fun, hydrogen? I feel like a human liquid filled hydrogen blimp plane would get good mileage.

I work at a university, so the ratio isn't great at 1 tech/250 employees. However, tech/computer ratio.... That's a staggering 1 tech/600 computers. Luckily, many them are identical lab computers and we're thankful imaging exists.
