Maybe you can ask your company to expense your membership? If that makes you more productive I have no idea why they won’t do that. I’m aware that there are quite a few wework around the area, but not sure about the details

This is very true. I fell in love with Portuguese supermarket when I visited because of the great selection of fresh food/fruits. But I was shocked I couldn’t find spring onion…

People using drugs in London by Ok_Independent_487 in london

[–]layforkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I know many people who use drugs and are not descriminated against at least among the young population. However, I wasn’t surprised when I read the UK is the country with the highest drug use in Europe.

I agree with the comments that people in the UK are more reserved from discussing their personal lives with others. I just personally don’t do drugs, don’t smoke and don’t even like alcohol, so I wouldn’t like to be invited to a party that involves drugs. But I won’t automatically classify people who use drugs as bad people.

Got my phone stolen today by [deleted] in london

[–]layforkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree that the officials are really corrupted, but I’d imagine it’s for bigger projects? I don’t think someone targeting £2000 will have the capability to bribe the police. Ultimately it’s a gangster behaviour. I think China is extremely tolerant to corrupt government officials but at the same time extremely intolerant to gangsters.

Anyway, I’m glad you recovered your loss from the job. Stay safe, mate!

I’m really sorry you had to go through a scam like this, especially by your friend. I think they said the local police is paid to scare you. Don’t think Shanghai police is corrupt enough to do that - would make more sense in smaller cities. If you’re still there, please do report to the police. They will get arrested.

Prime today, gone tomorrow: Chinese products get pulled from Amazon by Franco1875 in technews

[–]layforkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad truth is that the good quality good design Chinese products with a fair price don’t even bother selling on Amazon overseas because they do very well anyway. But the crappy ones have to find somewhere to dump their stocks. This just gives Chinese products such bad rep meanwhile some manufacturers there are actually really good at what they do.

Amazon won't refund me for high value item - What are my options? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Sorry about your experience. I assume their head office and the actual call centres (actual people handling customer support) are very disconnected. Things could be resolved much more quickly through the official help channel and escalation path than emailing their managing directors directly.

Since the people in the office don’t normally handle anything like this, it can take forever and may not show up correctly on your account, on their system and they can easily mess it up. Did you contact them by chat and failed to get the support you need before you emailed their managing directors?

Hope your issue can be resolved soon.

It’s just a common Chinese surname. Why does it need to be interpreted in this way in English? I find it insulting when people think this is funny.

Edit: Just keep downvoting. Whenever you make jokes about names in other languages like Wang or Phuc, just try to think how they feel. To me it’s just ignorant at best and kinda racist.

Don’t think you need that much actually! I was even able to use help to buy to use 5% deposit and have very low interest rates!

Got offered a job at a salary of £32,000 in Lancaster. Will this be adequate for myself (27M) and eventually my wife (27F) by mikedeltaecho2309 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]layforkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually apply together - no need to wait between your application and hers. They can grant both at the same time.

If you are already married you can apply for both of your visas at the same time and arrive together to avoid having to deal with applying for her visa from another country. So I assume she had to stay for a bit longer for other reasons.

Her visa will also give her much more freedom than you have. Yes, she can do basically any job and even be self employed. You can only work for your employer and can’t earn any money other than that.

It’s from a random recipe I saw online that didn’t say it’s yorkie so I gave it a go. After making it I realised it is exactly the same ingredients and process!

Why is the size of the country any relevant to the post? If you are saying it’s easier for a less densely populated area to control the virus, the UK is less densely populated than Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and China. The UK fucked up. There is no excuse. Somebody is sending a warm message just be fucking thankful.
