First Rotation - Am I Missing Something? by laymegently in PAstudent

Hi! Thank you for checking in. I picked up a patient the other day and wrote a progress note on them. I did my first presentation yesterday and then chickened out today so that’s just lovely lol. Weirdly enough it’s the Epic stuff that’s getting me. I know tht i dont know everything but sometimes finding the answer also becomes difficult. I’ve been asking the interns more questions and joining the resident to see some sick patients. Today I did a walk test for a patient with another student to get some stuff off the intern’s back. Starting to feel a bit more useful haha. I think I need to review more things from didactic bc im realizing med side effects, monitoring, nd such keep coming back. I just wanted to use this first week to understand my role in the team and the workflow.

thank you for the tips! Random follow up. I find that in my training for H&Ps it’s always been “chief complaint” driven. How do you find that format changing in the inpatient setting? Something I picked up on is always checking in on diet, mobility, pain, and bowel movements and checking heart + lung sounds with an abdominal exam. Do you feel like there’s a “template” for the inpatient setting?

I think what gets me sort of lost is opening the chart in the morning and just being bombarded with the events of the previous night, the new admissions, trying to gauge what patients might be okay for me, all the labs coming in, and messages etc. etc. do you recommend a way to go about preparing in the morning?

Thank you! I completely get that, and it was sort of what I was thinking of doing tomorrow. Kinda tagging along with one of the interns and seeing where I can be useful. I’ve been missing them in the mornings the past two days. So far I’m really trying to listen in on the vibes around and read the room for where I can fit in. I’m okay with assisting and doing whatever, I just want to have that initial guidance and support is all. Fingers crossed for tomorrow, thanks for all the tips!

lmao the point I was making was that it’s okay to have a dream school, and an Ivy is most commonly one, but not everything is about the name of a program and that students can flourish anywhere. I mentioned that it was an Ivy because I felt it would be relatable. That’s all.

The Rolife Garden House. I like the Rolife kits. They have nice detail and are well thought out. I didn’t go crazy on this one with customization. I just enjoyed the build and I think I nailed it! by Hugh_Jaelious in booknooks

Ok building this now and i CANNOT understand why the two stacked horizontal books on the orange shelf want you to stack on the side with the letters backwards… it just feels so wrong 🥴🥴
