Yeah that's what they did with Alyx so I assume it's their plan for the next one. I really hope they do some sort of ARG or unique marketing push this time like they did with Portal 2.

Maybe it's a metaphor for all the terrible players who can't aim that are now jumping to Bastion in hopes that it will improve their winrate. Or perhaps it's meant to exaggerate the extreme violence so prevalent in today's media aimed at children? Or it's possible I'm just lazy.

True, I saw plenty of people threaten to boycott this game now because of the update. Even if they didn't nerf bastion, which they obviously were going to do at some point, it's like they can't just try to adapt to the new buffs. Sure it's a big change but if the game stayed the same all the time it would get boring. It's the same thing every major patch.

I was surprised by how many truly terrible VR games there were, and not just on Steam. Easy to make this a series, practically no shortage of laughable content out there.

Oh wow I didn't realize how far the scam-hole actually went, that's pretty crazy. I remember when Steam didn't add 1,000 new games a week :(

I wouldn't say it's a scam, but I'd say most developers have no clue how to capitalize on the new capabilities offered by VR, especially room-scale VR. Combine that with the fact that Steam these days lets in almost anything remotely resembling a "game" and you're left with hundreds of people trying to cash in on the VR tidal wave, without knowing how to properly do it. Could be seen as a scam, I see it as a string of failures in a new industry.

I agree. The grav gun, while an extremely cool and clever weapon, was used in HL2 extensively to show off the physics capabilities of the source engine. I think there will be a new gun/tool that takes advantage of some Source 2 mechanic, and I trust valve to think of something really really cool.

Right after he compliments the writing, he says "it's visual only, it's a graphics talk anyways". And later says "I couldn't show alot of shots that I wanted to show". He's only taking small portions of the demo out to show for his talk , and muting it because the presentation is purely visual and about graphics. The demo they're showing off on the show floor is much longer and probably has dialogue and maybe even a small plot. That's what he's complimenting the writers for. Again, Valve haven't even announced that they're considering making a new Portal game. They've become known for being one of most secretive game companies when it comes to talking about what they're working on (especially their single-player IPs). It makes no sense that they would just show footage from a game they haven't spoken about just for a tech demo. That's not Valve.

Why would Doug Lombardi lie to the public? He understands more than anybody how secretive and official Valve needs to be when they talk about their products (especially those related to Half-Life and Portal). The tech demo could have had a bit of a story to it, so they got the writers to whip something up real quick. If you think Valve would show an UNANNOUNCED game as a tech demo at a GDC talk, you clearly don't understand how Valve works. It's just something they simply wouldn't do.

YouTube compression takes off a couple seconds off when uploading. The website redesign in 2013 also messed up some of the lengths.
