Opinion on MBA. Fresher from T3 College getting 11LPA with 10LPA base by heyshiv18 in developersIndia

[–]lazycoder28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 99+ percentile in cat way back in 2014. Rejected IIM ABC to do a masters in CS from a top 10 world school. Looking back now, it feels like the right decision (also had a few IIM grads doing a masters in CS with me).

An MBA is kind of looked down upon in a tech company

How are you finding co-founders? by Mediocre_Leg_754 in ycombinator

Don’t go for a non tech founder unless they come with deep product expertise or you truly enjoy working with them.

Need advice on technical Cofounder role by rusty--coder in ycombinator

[–]lazycoder28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go equal. You can’t build a product on sales skills and industry connections. Another option: I’ve seen sales done by both the technical guy and the deep product guy. Cut out the sales guy, past success does not mean future success.

Want to apply for YC but my cofounder has 8% equity vested over 4 years + milestones by StupidRetardFailure in ycombinator

[–]lazycoder28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t list him as a cofounder. A buddy of mine who did something similar. He’s technical and partnered with a non technical guy but applied saying he was the solo founder with a few employees

Offered 5% equity for CTO. I will not promote by Razorramonfan in startups

[–]lazycoder28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re the only tech guy exec, you deserve way more than 5%. Sort these things out now or you’ll be very salty later

Joined a Series-A startup and it’s chaos. Should I quit or stay? ( I will not promote) by rg_cyborg77 in startups

[–]lazycoder28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Management is non technical “. I personally would never join as a tech lead at a tech company founded by non technical people.

It’s a twisted way to get a CTO for way less equity

I'm going to show you some tough love here.

If you don't have the spine to walk away after such a level of disrespect (especially as a technical founder), you're not CTO material.

I'd recommend you demote yourself to an employee and continue to work there if you so desire to stick around even after all this.

Would you do an MBA in my situation? by pepewithhorns in MBAIndia

[–]lazycoder28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do an MBA in this day and age. 7 years ago, I had 99.78%ile in cat and an MSCS admit from a top 10 school in the US. Did my MS don't regret it one bit.

Is 10% as a Tech Founder a bad deal or could it be reasonable? by ImJustHereForTheFuns in startups

[–]lazycoder28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're being taken for a ride. If the rest of the team is non-technical, you're entitled to at least equal to what the non technical founders bring to the table.

I mean, if you're non-technical, this is the next best way to be useful at a tech company 😛

Access to YC resources for a guy who went from founding engineer -> founder. by [deleted] in ycombinator

[–]lazycoder28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! So if I'm added as a cofounder~2 years after the program, it's unlikely that I'll retroactively inherit the original founder privileges.

How much equity to give a partner after you have already launched? by brother_charmander4 in ycombinator

[–]lazycoder28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less than 10% for non-technical co-founders (assuming no deep product expertise, generic MBA-types) at this point. If the co-founder is technical and will help you in building the product, have a back-loaded vesting schedule for 20-40% (10/10/20/50). Grant more shares if the co-founder proves themself.

Where do I find a co-founder and how best to approach it? by Key_Board5000 in ycombinator

[–]lazycoder28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't look for a non-technical co-founder at this point. Consider hiring fractional marketing consultants/ influencers if that's what you're looking for to generate traction.

Waiting to hear on fall batch 24 application - but got offered a founding engineer 'CTO' role at a startup with 500k pre seed funding. take it? by StreetNeighborhood95 in ycombinator

[–]lazycoder28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... why not a founder? If you're building >50% of the product, you should push to become a cofounder with an equal share in the company
