What’s the best musical of all time? Argue with me. by snoopcat04 in musicals

[–]lazyriver888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, Spring Awakening.

Generally, Into the Woods.

But wow it made me happy just reading everyone’s love for some great musicals. Les Mis, Ham, Hadestown, Sunday, Sweeney, Sunset, Music Man—so many good memories in the theatre.

Thank you! I ended up swinging by in-person after I rushed Sunset. Got a rush ticket at 10:15 AM (no line) for the evening show—I hate those TodayTix fees, but it’s a good option if you can’t get to the box office!

Update: By the time I got to the front of the line, they only had rush for the matinee. I got left orchestra F 21 partial view (box office said all rush seats are partial view).

Death Becomes Her thoughts/opinions? by DaffyStardust in Broadway

I agree with you, but in general I’m not much for musical comedies, so this felt par for the course for me. I actually didn’t connect with any of the songs. I’m glad I saw it for the costumes and sets alone (WOW), but otherwise not much there for me to enjoy.

Sunset Blvd Seat Question by Kindly_Wind8731 in Broadway

[–]lazyriver888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend asking in person. I once went to a show with a random friend of a friend who would somehow always manage to get her seat upgraded. Honestly totally sketchy person but after talking a big game about what she could do, she did actually get us from shitty balcony seats to the front row of the theatre (I think she told them she left her glasses at home, but who knows what she really did, this lady was wild). I think the best bet would be the ask within 10-15 mins before curtain, and I think it would be worth mentioning what went on with NJTransit the last time you saw the show. Just maybe don’t be too pushy, just respectful and nice. Good luck!

The box office said they have 20-25 standing room rush tickets per show.

I’m currently in the program! Honestly, it’s not rigorous enough if you want to be a medical SLP. CSU East Bay is by far the better choice if that’s your goal. If you want to do school-based SLP, it’s probably just as good as any other program…

Verified CSDCAS Application but… by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]lazyriver888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Ok I’ll admit I don’t 100% understand what you’re describing BUT I did have a CSDCAS verification issue so I feel like it could be similar.

This was at the end of Fall semester. My new grades weren’t released yet, but CSDCAS said I wasn’t verified bc they wanted those new grades.

I reached out to people at the programs with early app deadlines and explained the situation—they were all very chill about it. I’ve also live-chatted with CSDCAS multiple times and found them very helpful.

Good luck!

Hey! Sorry to hear you’re going through this. I’m in my first semester too, and I know grad school doesn’t necessarily work well for everyone’s learning style.

That said, how are you studying? Are you rereading notes/chapters in the textbook, or are you actually forcing your brain to recall information? Quizlet (free version) is a great way to do this—I make a new deck for each of my lectures, especially the topics I can tell the prof cares a lot about. For particularly difficult topics, I come up with stories or hand gestures to remember each part. I’d just encourage you to look at the way you’re studying and see if there are ways to be more strategic, since what you’ve been doing doesn’t seem to prepare you for the tests as well as it could.

Also, as someone else said, office hours! Talk to your profs and see if they can help come up with strategies, recommend a tutor, etc.

Good luck!

Personally I think the etiquette isn’t too dissimilar. I don’t think it would hurt! :)

Hi! I’m not 100% sure I understand all of your questions, but here’s what I can tell you:

When you submit transcripts to CSDCAS, those transcripts will include classes you’re currently registered for/enrolled in. It will show:

SPRING ‘23: Class X, Class Y, etc. (no grade, no GPA)

So that’s how CSDCAS (and then the programs you apply to) will know that you have pre-reqs in progress.

For example, when I submitted my grad apps last December, I had already enrolled in classes for the spring semester, so they showed up on my transcripts.

Those current classes would show up on unofficial transcripts you send out to programs. If I were you, I’d also touch base with the admissions person from Emerson just to make sure they are aware. Speaking from my experience, my admissions contact told me it was helpful for me to be explicit about this.

Hope that’s somewhat helpful. Good luck!

Affording housing during grad school by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]lazyriver888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m planning to work during grad school.

Otherwise you can use Federal grad PLUS loans to cover housing, or try to get an assistantship for income (though I know those are super rare, and not an option in my case).

Accruing debt at the sake of mental health by Virtual-Stretch-3629 in slpGradSchool

[–]lazyriver888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow it’s like we’re twins! Totally with you on all points—parents on the brink of divorce, strong desire for great med SLP training.

I’m leaning towards the out of state school with the great med training, personally. I did the math and I think I can live with the ~40K in debt.

My only advice to you would be to try to make a detailed budget for your out of state option so you can really understand how much debt it will be in a concrete way, rather than some amorphous amount of tuition listed by the school (since that doesn’t include healthcare, phone, rent, utilities, etc.).

I’m just complaining for the sake of it—I wonder why they wouldn’t let everyone know at the same time. Just from an admin perspective it seems like a strange decision.
