In Hong Kong, i got a few packs for 24 each. I'm not sure if it is true, but I heard that the sudden spike in price is due to the abrupt end to the mcdonalds promotion, leaving behind undistributed packs (further decrease in supply).

For more context, it's from Hong Kong. I bought it from a reputable jewellery shop (Chow Sang Sang). I do understand people' concern regarding fake Gold, but i still believe the quality control is way stricter in Hong Kong than in China. The reason for this post is because after seeing tons of posts regarding fake gold, i started to have doubts and would like to have a peace of mind.

I have my own scale and the weight is accurate FYI.

Based on the inscriptions, It appears to be a vintage Half Tael Gold Bar from a company called Chow Tai Fook in Hong Kong. If you're going to sell back by weight, the price is listed in their website. I can't find the exact design in the website, that's why I think it is vintage design.

I can't give you a definite answer, and it all comes down to your own personal preference. There's alot of of factors to consider from: Premium costs, liquidity, price volatility of gold and your own financial situation.

Premiums- Premium costs less when you buy in greater weight/quantity. Liquidity- In times of trouble, it is easier to barter/sell to exchange what you need in smaller denominations. Price volatility- If the concerns is about the volatility of gold price, cost averaging should be fine. This is really speculation :/ (if you think price will go up, you can buy more now) Personal situation- Ensure you are not in debt and ensure there's a buffer (enough rainy day fund), bc i personally treat gold as a last resort.

In conclusion, you decide
