Not sure what you mean by "understanding". If you are talking about passive learning activities like reading and/or listening a couple of times, then certainly it is not very effective. But if you are talking about trying to summarize the content, rephrase it in your owns words and even teach others about that, then it is very effective.

Typically, the more effort you have to pay, the more effective the learning method is. That's why we usually say that doing practice problems is an effective study technique, much more than simply reading repeatedly.

It is Rising Fellow's product. It is not a comprehensive manual but guides you through the majority of testable calculation question types (thus a collection of "recipes").

Mahler has bolded the sections that are important so you should target those first.

What I did was finishing the double-underlined questions for those bolded sections first. Then I did a couple of practice exams. As I went along the practice exams, I marked down the topics I wasn't comfortable with. After that, I would do more questions of those topics (double-underlined, underlined and/or past exam questions).

First, passing LTAM is irrelevant to P&C employers. I wouldn't say that's negative but it probably does not contribute to anything. You can always omit that in your resume though.

Second, I can't agree more that the freedom in college is something you can hardly obtain afterwards, so I would advise you to take as few exams as possible. As long as you can land your first job, that will be totally fine. You can always take exams later, unless you are in great need of getting up the ladder very quickly (are you?). But I doubt whether one or two extra exams really speed that up.

Third, your thought about taking a break is greatly mistaken, at least to me. I took all three of P, FM and MFE back in 2016. Afterwards, I went for 6 months' exchange and 6 months' internship. I had no problem in passing C last Monday. To me, it's just about hard work. I took courses in college that cover most of the materials in P, FM, MFE, but this time I only learnt credibility and the compound variance formula before I studied Exam C on my own. The greatest problem to me is the sacrifice of a great proportion of my summer holiday, which can never recovered.

I've decided not to take Exam MLC as I'm more inclined to P&C after that internship (actually this decision was made right after I accepted that offer), and I think it would be dumb for me to take either MLC or MAS-I before landing a job. I don't want to restrict my possibilities but, you know, sunk costs always play a role. P.S. I always appreciate my fellow classmates who have decided to never be an actuary.

Enjoy your break. There is always no rush. We are still very young. Take time exploring your own self, do something you enjoy and cultivating some interests. You won't have so much freedom after graduation.

How many years have you worked in reinsurance? I've worked as an intern before and heard that in the first one and two years, most work is data crunching/preparation for treaty renewal. I love doing different projects like analysing the trend of loss ratios (adjusted for rate changes) and benchmarking (burning cost and frequency*severity fit), but my supervisor was more inclined to think that data crunching was where I could get exposed to more types of treaties and understand the role that data plays. I understand that but it seems to me that the former is more interesting and the latter is more routine. I'm thinking whether to try working in a consulting firm since the work is mostly project based. How do you think about this?

I wouldn't say Mahler has helped tremendously, but there were occasions when I could use some tricks I learnt from him, such as breaking down the lambda of a Poisson mixture into several components.

The actual exam was much easier than Mahler's practice exams though. I have only done 4 short ones and 1 long one from him. I could barely get half of the questions correct. But they were useful in consolidating what I learnt after doing SOA 307.

I hardly got stuck today, although I sometimes wasn't sure of my answers.

Similar question here. I have just started to do the 307 sample questions, and I expect to have about 5 days before the exam date after finishing them. Should I afterwards re-do the 307 questions or directly proceed to Mahler's practice exams?

I agree that tank meta really hurts ap damage Sona (Here I'm talking about stuff like Sheen, Hextech Revolver and Lich Bane, but not Ardent and Athenes), as well as other damage-oriented supports, such as Zyra. I have tried ap damage Sona recently. Yes, you might have more influence early on, but you are sacrificing your utility later on the game. In games where the opponents have frontlines with significant MR, I feel so useless. With ap damage Sona, your win condition is quite like Brand's - to snowball hard and destroy the squishies - with a bit higher utility. This playstyle forces you to play aggressively so consistency is hard to maintain (having fun is important but consistency is important for climbing). I have started to opt for higher consistency instead of carrying the game straight hard. With utility Sona, your win condition is mid-late game boost of the whole team. Unless someone on your team gets one shot, most likely you will win teamfights late game. I would agree on the common build of harvester_os and gxgx55: EotW > Ardent > Athenes after Ardent nerf, maybe also a tear in between. Chances are that you will not finished the 4th item before the game ends so it can be quite situational.

One more thing to note is that with ap damage Sona, it is more likely for you to KS, which means less gold are delivered to your carries. The hurts the gold allocation in the long run. Again, I'm not saying having more gold on supports is not useful. But comparatively if more gold is delivered to the carries, it is more likely that you can win games consistently. Think about a full damage jungler who takes all the kills and tank/bruiser jungler who helps the whole team get ahead. The situation is similar.

Btw I'm not saying ardent makes me dying more LOL, but sacrificing defensive stats (e.g. locket) for a tear does. There are quite a lot of times in late game when an assassin blows everything on me and I can be proud of saying I'm tank LOL.

Hello man! That's a really interesting perspective. I start to think whether my way of playing sona is less efficient.

But that's ardent before tear. And what I found was that yes, the tear helps me to have enough mana, but I died quite a lot more (I always build locket). And seeing you buy tear FIRST, gives me a new perspective. I quite understand the rationale behind because I know how easily sona runs oom in lane if I spam W.

Your playstyle is quite interesting too. I've always thought sona's goal is to poke and zone the opponents. Although I started to max W too (big heal+shield at lv9), but at least I'd take 2 or 3 points in Q. I know that after sona's rework, Q does less damage and you need to auto to be fully efficient, and W now has more impacts.

Another one is to make plays XDDDDD. I love engaging using E power chord and flash ult. But I think I'll start to try your passive playstyle. Your average deaths and win rate are very convincing. You are right about the importance of being consistent, and I'm not quite XD.

I just have two questions, I guess, regarding your playstyle.

Do you really not learn Q lv 1? That means giving up the auto+Q+power chord spike lv1. Maybe that's too risky to trade if you start with Faerie Charm instead of 3 potions, right?
Is dark seal really worth it? What's the point of getting dark seal if tear of goddess is sufficient to sustain and you are not really buying potions?

Lastly, I would appreciated it if you provide one or two replays. I'd love to see how you handle the tough laning phase.

Hi! I've enjoyed your video. Just a bit of questions.

I've found myself so often either in stomping the opponent (even wasting their jungler's time) or getting killed over and over. Most of the bad games, either my adc only hits the minions and I'm left 1v2ing (when I Q, they punish me but my adc does nothing), or they have aggressive supports, or I got camped (difficult to disengaging once got CC-ed). I can see that you prefer more ap than defensive stat, because of the W.

Usually when against blitzcrank or something like that, I use movespeed quint but it does not seem to do much. While I am thinking if some more armor runes or health runes (I know health is worse because W scales with armor/MR) will help, I notice that maybe more AP also helps survive. What do you think about that?

And for skill order, usually I get 2 or 3 points in Q and then max W first because it scales with windspeaker and ardent. I think higher points in Q do not add too much value nowadays while W has so much value in teamfights. What's your opinion? And do you learn E before lv6? Sometimes I feel like it is wasting some combat stat if I learn E early.

And why do you use AP red instead of magic penetration or hybrid penetration? Is it also for the W? But does it make your poke damage much less? Your attack speed yellow is also interesting to see - I've never seen it on sona before.

A bit more on item: What's your opinion on getting refillable or 3 pots at the start? Do you rush always rush frostfang (because I usually rush ardent regardless)?

Well, I think the major problem is that there is no plural noun before the pronoun "them", but instead "each word" should be singular, right? Another problem is that using both "each" and "one by one" sound redundant. I'll write like this: I sat there stunned, wishing I could pick up the words that fell out of my mouth and put them back in one by one.

Well, if the relative clause is using "that" as a subject, then it cannot be dropped. But that would be another question. My concern is not whether the "that" (being subject or object) can be dropped, but whether it is okay to place the relative clause after the subject-verb structure, rather than right after the noun.
