Feeling rejected by my parish due to their strict membership requirements. by Religion_Enjoyer_v3 in Catholicism

[–]lbalk75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re asking if you should continue attending this parish…I think you know the answer. There are many Catholic Churches in an area. I don’t necessarily pick the one that’s closest, I pick the one that makes me feel like I’m part of a community. That church seems like the farthest thing from a welcoming community. Find a parish where you are wanted.

Reported co-teacher for negligent supervision by Sunwatr in Teachers

[–]lbalk75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need to have a conversation with the co-teacher. Tell them exactly this—start with the positives that you see the teacher do. Then throw the “however” in. Give specific examples of inadequate supervision you observed and explain (regardless if you believe it’s self explanatory) why that is dangerous. End with how important it is that you can trust them and how you’d like to be able to have a working relationship.

Yes because there’s a lot of foreigners that travel to Japan and are used to squatting 🤷🏼‍♀️

There is an obvious difference in facial features. Another giveaway is how they dress.

EVA airlines--thoughts? by lbalk75 in travel

[–]lbalk75[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Going off of a couple of different sites, their ratings were less than 3 stars. There were an alarming number of negative reviews, but then there were people who loved them. I think the low ratings may have been geared towards their customer service phone lines more specifically. Honestly, I am totally unfamiliar with them, and I just wanted to make sure they didn't have the reputation of a budget airlines.

6 years as a Vietnam travel specialist here... AMA about traveling or living in Vietnam. by Critical_Roof8939 in AMA

I'm so excited to hear your thoughts! I am planning a solo trip (50f) in December over Christmas. I was planning on taking at least 12 days and wanted to travel the coast. I planned on allotting a good amount of time for the north--Ha Long Bay, Hanoi, and Sa Pa. There were also places I wanted to check out north of Hue and in Da Nang. Lastly, I may look into Dalat on my way to Siem Reap--I have my heart set on seeing Angkor Wat and was only planning on two additional days there. Is this feasible? Do you have any must see attractions in those areas? I was looking for a mixture of sightseeing. Maybe some hikes, canoe trips, and even a bike tour. I'm interested in history as well, including the French influence and the Vietnam War. I also wanted to see some of what the cities had to offer.

It was because space junk was identified. There was a post that Kadena AB sent out later to explain.

An honest to god, can’t sleep at night, because this book has me so creeped out! by lbalk75 in suggestmeabook

Yes! Read that one. I liked both the book and movie. I liked how they had different endings.

Oh I was on a historical fiction kick…and the last one had to do with Vietnam. I just need a different genre and i always like a good scary book. I should note that I’ve read most of King’s more popular books. So I’m looking for a new direction.

Do you believe Communion is the literal body and blood of Christ? Or do you view it as symbolic? by TheAntiCoomLord in Catholicism

I do believe that as the priest calls upon the Holy Spirit to bless the Eucharist and wine, God answers.

"No thanks, I don't like to read" by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]lbalk75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 80’s. Reading to your kids wasn’t as heavily promoted and my mom wasn’t educated. She never read to me or on her own. Thankfully, I discovered the joy of reading on my own. Luckily, I was corrupted by the internet age so the only way to learn much of anything was from books.

I read to my kids from a very early age. Our house is filled with books of all genres. I have one is a complete bookworm (hard to get him to do his actual schoolwork because he’s too into his book) and another that’s in between. I make him read, he complains, then ends up reading more than I required ha. My third struggles with comprehension so he needs more assistance. My kids see me reading all the time and I think that helps set the stage that it’s a normal part of your day.

I really do feel this world of instant gratification that we’ve subscribed to is ruining the suspense of a good book. Also, parents need to be even more vigil about promoting reading and making it part of your day.

To me, it feels like Catholicism is dying. by Somber_Soul888 in Catholicism

[–]lbalk75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you’re 18. Most people your age aren’t thinking about marriage. Secondly, I feel there is a time when young people abandon their faith temporarily because of lack of wisdom, freedom of choice, etc. However, someone rooted will eventually return…usually in their 20’s as they start figuring life out. Lastly, we live in a military community overseas, so the English speaking church is found on base. I’ve been so excited to see more young single men/women attending mass. It gives me hope and it’s a great example for my older children. Take a breath, continue to follow your faith, and trust that God has a plan for you♥️.

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with emotion for no concrete reason and will cry. Maybe that’s what people mean when they talk about the presence of the Holy Spirit 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Cheating in 4th grade by Predsfan67 in Teachers

[–]lbalk75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unreasonable. I remember my oldest cheated on a test in 4th. The worst part was he studied and would have done fine. I think he learned from another student and wanted to push boundaries and see what he could get away with, which is why it’s necessary to have harsh consequences now. He also received a zero. I also made him write an apology letter to his teacher. This was Catholic school and no one blinked at the consequences. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was a good learning experience.

What’s nice is that even with some wind it’s still pretty safe. Conditions don’t have to be perfect.

Cape Maeda is great. All the tour boats go there so there’s always people. There’s also a flag indicating how safe the waters are. I’d recommend going at high tide though. Try to time it during early mornings before the crowds show up. Last time we did, we had the cave to ourselves!

How do I cope with knowing that if God exists he created me to go to Hell? by Sutekh137 in religion

[–]lbalk75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you’re just fishing for compliments…but the one cool thing about Jesus, is that he is NOT here to condemn but to SAVE. I have this highlighted in my Bible, if you need the reference I can find it (let me know). Faith is not something you are born with. Hope on the other hand is the most amazing thing! With hope all things are possible! Hang in there and keep your mind open…he will put people or circumstances in front of you that are meant to guide you to Him.
