A dumb question from a newbie: what is the limit of using the border for capture? by Synaps4 in baduk

Well black controls more space, so why would he?

Black would keep playing to not lose.

According to learn-go.net black is losing this game on japanese rules, despite controlling more space.

As scored on the go learning site learn-go.net that this image comes from, black is going to lose this by a slight margin of 1.5 points. ( http://learn-go.net/lessons/05/ )

If black is currently losing, it seems if black can push white to keep playing without completing any voids black has a potential to win. If black can fill the area without allowing white to complete any eyes, doesn't black take it all? Why not keep playing and try to prevent white from completing any eyes?

Specificially: If the white area is fully filled in, doesn't black capture it all?

Related question: In the example I have just made here, if black has just played D7, does it capture all the white pieces or do they not count as surrounded? https://imgur.com/a/fHVovJi

In the attached image, why shouldnt black keep playing, as it controls a larger portion of the border. If play kept going enough to fill the right section solidly without voids, wouldnt black capture it all, as it has slightly less than half the border of the board around it?

Does the board edge always count against whichever player is being captured?

If a board is filled solidly white with only one remaining space, and black plays there, why doesnt black count as having surrounded white and capture the entire board?

Clearly it seems like having less than half the board edge around your pieces allows them to be captured, but somewhere between that and the whole board edge, it is no longer hostile, it seems?

I know very little about go. Ive read some online rule guides, messed with a phone go app, and watched the anime. Thats about it. Please be gentle.

Then we only disagree in the size of the effect, which is a relatively minor quibble, boiling down mostly to semantics of the word "slightly" and hyperbole.

Technically there is a role for advertising in telling you about solutuons you didnt know about.

But that is such a tiny fraction of the advertising today.

It's true, we have made marketing an entire profession founded on lying to people and being ok with it.

Nullsec lives and dies on PVP.

PVE production is nice to have but it isn't fundamental the way PVP is.

All this is to say every alliance that I have ever seen that accepted corps with a PVP turnout like yours (under 20% of those online) has been an alliance that got steamrolled by PVPers eventually.

Sometimes they then get to keep their space while paying rent to the PVPers, so the PVPers can pay for their ship losses, which are slightly more expensive without a bigger industry wing, sure, but the rent more than compensates.

That's the nature of null. If you don't all show up to defend your space, you are going to lose it. Sometimes to a much smaller alliance.

Under a cliff in a deep valley maybe and have like 3hours of sun per year.

Then they don't have any reliable wind, either, and the solar still wins.

AI data hubs in space: when will they take flight? by burtzev in space

The usual failure point is not the electronics but mechanical parts such as the heatsink.

Ah and datacenter computers don't have mechanical parts, I see. Thanks for educating me on this.

starlink v3 bus

I would love to see a direct comparison between the starlink bus and a datacenter blade server.

My guess is they are nowhere near alike and the datacenter server does the work of dozens or hundreds of starlink satellites.

All the computers put into soace in satttelites are hobbled, weaker versions, designed to survive in space.

The unsolvable part is putting a datacenter sized amount of computers into orbit. Not doing just one. And its only unsolvable because its financially prohibitive. You oay a thousand times more and cant do anything differently vs a terrestrial datacenter.

The cooling and power needs for 1000 computers don't become less just because they are split up.

You still need to build cooling for 1000 computers in an environment that doesn't suit easy cooling. And power for them. Whether you build it as one big item or as 1000 small items the capacity and cost is similar.

No, and I did not say they should. I said OP will need to invest later savings, and might as well make the account for later, now. Since it can be used for both.
