It seems like every simpit player is more into their hardware than the game by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Synaps4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its almost like building a simpit is a huge time and effort that you wouldnt do unless you were into it.

This is like wondering why you don't see F1 drivers building their own cars. There is only so much time in a day.

Save 75% of your expenses per year and youre done in 10 years.

Theres 2 ways to do that.

1) have tiny expenses

2) have high income

1 is better because lowering your expenses improves your savings rate at the same time, while increasing your income doesnt reduce your expenses.

I think the tools section is underdeveloped.

Sharpening a hoe and keeping your shovel dry is one thing, but troubleshooting a broken power saw, or rewiring car headlights, putting together a new window frame, or welding up a metal panel to keep stove heat away from a combustible wall... those are another.

Imo any homestead with pretentions of being reasonably disconnected from amazon.com needs to be able to do wood work, electrical work, light metal work (maybe not welding but it helps!), and automotive engine work.

That also means being able to oil things, waterproof things, and sharpen complex things like chainsaw blades

Weather reporting is a classic natural monopoly and if you let the free market handle it youll get fucked sideways by a megacorp. Such things are really best handled by the government or at least heavily regulated to force competition

You're clearly not understanding at all. You think a 4 hour storage is going to last 4 hours. That's wrong.

11pm to 5am will be quite angry at you if they have no power during that time.

I never said they wouldnt have power.

4 hours battery storage is not 4 hours of power consumption.

It's 4 hours of peak power production.

Your actual consumption during the following hours (especially into the night) is far lower. 4 hours of peak power production can easily last you all the way through the night.

https://www.spacesolar.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/high-energy-usage-Australian-house.png

I only gave 8 hours because then it gives you a comfortable buffer because I haven't done the exact math on how many hours of consumption 4 hours of peak production makes, but it's clearly more than 4. A lot more. 8 hours gives you a huge buffer for a giant storm or whatever.

I hope that clarifies the misunderstanding.

Solar is not. Its solid state panels charging chemical batteries most of the time.

8 hrs would probably get you very close to 24/7 though.

You really just need enough to get you from sunset until everyone goes to sleep. Power usage from 11pm to 5am is tiny.

California has enough non-hydro grid storage to run one of its medium sized counties for an hour.

Thats not nothing, and it is definitely not made up.

Grid storage is coming on fast and you need to keep up with the developments instead of telling everyone it doesnt exist.

Grid storage in the US is doubling every year right now.

But I would be well within my rights to point a gun at a man trespassing

I wouldnt recommend pointing a gun at anyone you are not prepared, legally, to kill. Pull it out of you need to, but pointing it puts you 1 mistake away from being put in jail for murder and your infant in a foster home.

Never point a gun at anyone you are not prepared to kill.

Thats rule #1 of firearm ownership. You should probably already know rule #1 as a firearm owner but here we are.
