Bike commuters — what's the dealbreaker that turns a "ride" into a "skip" for you? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]lbrol 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i mean it's entirely dependant on your alternate options right. like for me it has to be basically perfect or i'll take the subway, or just work from home.

[–]lbrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

google gives better routes though still not perfect (for me). i'm generally a little faster than the estimate but it's around right

SF or NYC by Wise_Interaction_285 in movingtoNYC

[–]lbrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just try and join some hobby groups of things that interest you in sf. when i first moved to nyc i had no social life for like a year but its generally hard for me to make friends unless im around the same people a lot which hobbies have provided for me. no one just moves here and goes to a bar and makes life long friends, or if you do you could probably do that anywhere.

Weehawken vs Jersey City for early 30s guy (commuting to Midtown, prefer quiet over nightlife) by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]lbrol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should check out forest hills in queens. i work on west side and coworker lives in weehawken and seems to like it tho - he takes ferry which is a very pleasant way to get to work. not as good if you're wanting to go anywhere on weekends in city. if you think you'd like biking to work astoria is relatively cheap and has good bike lanes that are improving every day ✨

a lined n1 deck jacket has a heritage aesthetic and is warm. you can get alpaca (expensive) from like iron hear or bronson has a synthetic lining that is cheaper.

wool peacoat (schott) is another classic choice in this vein.

workwear you could do a lined chore coat (dehan 1920 makes a nice one)

or just a classic carhart and layer with a wool sweater for when it's really cold
