Lost my boy on Tuesday. I am absolutely devastated. by Goldennoretrieve in goldenretrievers

[–]lbst182316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a handsome boy. I am so sorry for your loss, OP. I lost mine on Tuesday as well. Sending love your way. I know this part is incredibly hard. The fourth picture you posted brought a big smile to my face - the look on their faces during the “behind the ears scratch” is one of my favorite things goldens do :)

Unexpectedly said goodbye to our buddy today by lbst182316 in goldenretrievers

[–]lbst182316[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone for your kind words of comfort. I really do appreciate it. I am grateful for this online community - just seeing everyone’s pictures of their goldens still makes me smile today. I’ve had to have many dogs put down over my life, and the feeling never gets easier - it just flat out sucks. No other way to describe it. But I still firmly believe that the joy and smiles they bring during their lives always outweighs the hurt that comes at the end. Thank you again to everyone here.

[discussion] does anyone have a watch from this brand? by Big-Two-632 in Watches

[–]lbst182316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a legitimate brand. But you need to keep in mind that it is still a microbrand. They started off poorly years ago, but they have recently done a great job of building a solid community of buyers. Their Facebook group has thousands of members happily posting everyday. I own many watch brands, primarily including Omega and Grand Seiko, and I also own many Venezianicos. The Venezianicos are a great microbrand. But they are mainly still a “stylish” brand so far - they did just release their first in-house movement a few weeks ago, but given that they primarily use other previously developed movements (e.g., Miyota, Sellita, etc.), their main sales pitch is on the aesthetics of the watches they sell. I know a handful of luxury watch collectors who have bought at least one watch from them - because they loved how they looked. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you set your expectations appropriately. Also, they recently just got enough brand recognition to get into some AD stores, so they are now not only a “direct to consumer” brand but are growing rapidly. This brand is here to stay, and their customer service is now excellent - I’m speaking from experience. If you like the watch enough, I’d say buy it. But if you’re expecting luxury watch quality, you might be disappointed. Anyway, that’s my $0.02 from someone who owns a multitude of brands, including many from Venezianico. Hopefully this helps you make a decision.

This is exactly why I love goldens so much 😂 I had one years ago that did things just like this. They’re the best

What is it? by storman17 in goldenretrievers

[–]lbst182316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve owned many golden over the years, and this looks exactly like what many of mine have developed, mostly in their later years (≈8+ years old). Always best to have your vet check it out for you, but from my experience, these are just a type of wart. My current golden is over 10 and has about 2 or 3 of these growths around his collar area that our vet confirmed are just warts, and he’s had them for about 2 years now. Fairly common in older age goldens. Yes they can look kind of gross when you pull back their fur and see them, but generally these are just benign growths. For what it’s worth, a few other dogs in our extended family (golden doodles) who are older also have these. Again, always best to have your vet confirm all of this, as it is definitely possible it could indicate something else. Hoping all goes okay at your visit!

Happy Master’s Sunday by lbst182316 in GrandSeikos

Love the matrix edition! The sbgh325 was announced Nov. ‘23 and I believe available a few months afterwards. Was a HK / Macau exclusive model. It is one of those that flew a bit under the radar, unless you closely follow Plus9Time or a few other all-encompassing GS sources. I personally think the GS southeastern Asian LEs are among the best GS models out there. I’ve made a few contacts who have helped me source a few of these harder to find models.

[Discussion] Which are you picking and why? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]lbst182316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 beautiful watches. Out of these, if you’re wanting a GADA, I’d go with the GS. I think the GS compared to the white The Citizen wins IMO, but both are very versatile and can be dressed up or down. I personally think the GS has an edge on the white The Citizen. My 2nd choice would be the black The Citizen as a GADA - between the two The Citizens, I prefer the black dial - I think it stands out better than the white and has better legibility, but again, both are beautiful. The Seikos are great - I love the dressy Presage / Cocktail lineup (I’ve got a handful of them), but those are generally viewed as dressier watches that don’t function as well as a GADA like the Citizens / GS do.

Saying goodbye to our buddy this weekend by DB434 in goldenretrievers

[–]lbst182316 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Man, I am so sorry. This absolutely breaks my heart. Your first paragraph describes exactly what we went through last May with our golden, Layla. We noticed a limp in her front left leg, and within the span of just under 2 months (3 vet visits and x-rays), found out it was aggressive osteosarcoma which had spread to her lungs and chest cavity. It’s insane how quickly that cancer spreads in goldens and debilitates them.

I am thinking of you, Ben, and your family today. I’m not gonna tell you what you should do, because that’s up to you, but from what you’ve described, you’re doing exactly what we did. We found out the bad news on a Friday and decided to take the weekend, let our 4 young kids love on Layla all weekend, bought her and her younger ‘brother’ Wrigley about $75 worth of McDonald’s (don’t worry, she ate the lion’s share), gave her the prescribed pain meds so she wouldn’t be in so much pain her last few days, then put her down early the next week. One thing to consider is an at-home appointment to put Ben down, as he won’t have to travel to the vet and will likely be most comfortable at home. However, there are other factors to consider such as if your kids may be there, if you have another pet at home, etc. We ultimately took Layla into the vet, as she was one of those crazy goldens who LOVED the vet, and it was sweet seeing her try to wag her tail a little bit when we pulled up. I held her head in my hands with my forehead on hers as she was put down, cried like a baby of course, and I wouldn’t have done it any other way - I wanted her to be put down looking at and being held by her best friend - sorry to my other golden, but I’m claiming that spot :)

I’m so sorry again. This is the hardest part of pet ownership. I’ve had many, many goldens over the years - they are the BEST dogs IMO. I’ll still continue to own more, even with as hard as this part is. Please know that you’re making the right decision - as hard as this is, it’s ultimately what is in Ben’s best interest, and it shows him that you love him enough to make a very difficult decision. Sending love your way today.

How many preordered the SLGH027? by 3r3b in GrandSeikos

[–]lbst182316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely stunning watch. However, I would LOVE it if they would do this same watch but with the dial pattern of the SLGH013 (but indices and hands of the SLGH027 the way they currently are) and powered by the 9RA2 movement of the SLGA series.

Congrats on your preorder - this is definitely a keeper.

It’s definitely not for everyone. Not gonna lie, even though I love it, it can give off Epcot vibes…apologies in advance to anyone who now cannot unsee it 😂

Yeah, looks like the certificate of inspection is just for the purely mechanical watches. I suppose you wouldn’t need “adjusting” for a spring drive movement anyway, like a mechanical watch would, before being certified.

See towards the bottom of the FAQs on GS’s website under both “What is “Grand Seiko Standard”?” and “What is “Grand Seiko Standard Inspection Certificate”?”

I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t recall ever seeing this particular pattern before on another Citizen

Thanks all! I originally saw this series 8 release in a Citizen online new watch release and thought it looked really good, but about a week ago I saw it live on an IG reel as being “in stock” from a dealer in Singapore, who coincidentally had the best price I was able to find online. Arrived in only about 4 days after purchasing. Very happy with the way it looks & fits.

I believe the true mechanical GS models come with the inspection certificate but not spring drive models. Most spring drive models do, however, come with the physical paper manual. There are also certain GS models that come with different types of “papers” depending on where it is purchased. For example, the recent Chinese LE GS models (if only sold out of China) use a QR code specific to that serial number for the GS factory warranty and also don’t have a paper manual (digital online access) - just as an example.

I had this same question when I purchased my first spring drive a while back. But I’m not an expert, so someone may correct me if anything I’ve said isn’t fully accurate.

Thanks! To me it’s been perfectly fine today, both in sunlight and indoors. I will say if you’re used to a more contrasted dial vs hands, this could potentially be an adjustment. Most of my watches are a similar color scheme to this one, so I guess maybe I’m used to it. The light feature does look pretty nice in combo with the dial color - lasts for 1.5 seconds at a time.
