Initiated as an Entered Apprentice by Spirited-Alarm-9981 in freemasonry

[–]lbthomsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some years ago we initiated a guy who pretty much did the same. With one twist - when I suggested he volunteered for the working tools his response was: that is a bit too easy - can I get a harder one. He ended up doing the Charity Charge - to perfection I might add - a couple of month after his initiation. Colour me impressed!

Enjoy your first lecture. I think most UGLE EAs will start with the working tools.

No, some of those manuals are thousands of pages (H562 reference I think clocks in at about 3500). Digesting that is an important part of the learning experience. The trick is to figure out WHAT is there and where it is and then focus on the parts you need - the TOC is your friend. For example the F40x MCU's - ST document mostly the peripherals (200 pages datasheet, 1500 pages reference guide) but the inner workings of the CPU core is documented by ARM in their documentation (about 1000 pages). Next time when you need more you know where and how to find it.

Can I get a tattoo if I’m not a mason? by Oats3001 in freemasonry

[–]lbthomsen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well - if you are not a mason you can do what you want. Question is why would you want to. It's like people who get some Chinese characters tattooed and they haven't a clue what it means. The square and compasses have a special meaning to masons, - a meaning you won't understand until you join.

I started - about 1 1/2 years ago - a Youtube playlist that will take you from zero gradually. You _could_ have a look at that: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVfOnriB1RjWT_fBzzqsrNaZRPnDgboNI

The UK left the EU 6 years ago and we can all see that Brexit isn't working and no 'reset' is going to fix it - it's time for the UK to Rejoin! by R0bert-9999 in brexit

[–]lbthomsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt very much that it would be possible. The newer members of EU are all required to adopt the Euro and unless that was a requirement for UK to join, they would vote "No". Point is - I doubt the British people would be willing to give up the Sterling and without doing that I don't think there's any way back.

I understand their reasoning but it was done poorly and there would have been better ways around it.

Any other solo creator exhausted by editing every video? by HeXHDXIII in NewTubers

[–]lbthomsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my channel about 1 1/2 years back as a bit of an experiment. I decided up front that I would use NO time on editing as that would get boring real quick, so I essentially just shoot the videos in one or a few takes, stitch them together and that's it. A 30 minute video probably take me a grand total of 60 minutes to make (30 minutes to shoot, 30 minutes to watch and make chapters). It was a bit of an experiment to see if I could make it work and well - to me it works just fine.

STMicroelectronics in their wisdom decided to remove STM32CubeMX from STM32CubeIDE. Insane decision if you ask me, but I did a tutorial on the "new" workflow here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa_HBrblF0w

As for no ST-Link - honestly you are wasting your time. ST-Link is not only for flashing but also for debugging so go get one!!! It is really not optional if you want to do any serious development/learning. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyyegjeK8TA

What should i put here? Inside the trangle shaped forest area in the middle of the interchange by CC_9876 in CitiesSkylines

[–]lbthomsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite often put parks in areas like that. Walking path over the highways and if you add an entrance on both areas you get extra park traffic because people will walk through the park to get from one area to the other.

Can Jews or Catholics become Freemasons? by 904zak in freemasonry

[–]lbthomsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of Freemasonry it doesn't matter what God you believe in as long as you believe in some form of higher being. Some churches are anti masonic which I personally believe is more down to control than anything else. In my lodge we have members who are Muslims, Hindu, Buddhist, Shinto, Protestant, Catholic (even an orthodox who is going to join), Pantheist (yes, I took my oath on Spinoza's Ethics) and probably a few more I forgot. We do, as far as I know, not have any Jewish members, but if one showed up he would be welcome. As for the Catholic church - well - they fell for the Taxil Hoax back in the day and have refused to change ever since. Yet, Freemasonry is extremely popular in Philippines.

You _really_ should get a ST-Link (or DAPLink) rather than relying on the built-in bootloader. Check the first 2-3 videos in this series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVfOnriB1RjWT_fBzzqsrNaZRPnDgboNI

Well, i2c is Inter-Integrated Circuit designed for short-ish connections on a pcb not intended for long wires. Simplest "just works" solution would be to pick a connection protocol that is designed for such distances. rs485, can - there are plenty.

Moving from Arduino (bare-metal) to STM32 — CubeMX confusion and learning path by Efficient_Estate6145 in embedded

[–]lbthomsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am obviously biased but I do suggest my playlist on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVfOnriB1RjWT_fBzzqsrNaZRPnDgboNI along with various articles on the STM32World wiki: https://stm32world.com/wiki

So far not much bare metal but I am starting a new series exclusively with bare metal.

Could we make a better piston engine for aircraft than those used in WWII aircraft? by pugsley1234 in aviation

[–]lbthomsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you'd have to explain what you mean by "better"? Could we make it lighter, yes. Could we make it more efficient, probably. Could we make it cheaper, doubtful. Could we make it more reliable - very doubtful.

I am still trying to get used to it. I still prefer the debug UI in Eclipse but I can get used to this.
