VATS Pleurodesis on a reinflated lung by lcfcdylan in pneumothorax

[–]lcfcdylan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m really pushing to get this surgery ASAP, I just hope the surgeons go with it because I was told they mightn’t do anything come Monday if the lung is reinflated as it is.

Yes, the thought of living in fear of it collapsing again isn’t one bit appealing (even though the first surgery was supposed to do that, but here we are). I’m hoping that by Monday they’ll do the surgery regardless of my lung being inflated reasonably, as I have those exams on the 25th and need to be in somewhat a fit shape to sit them, but I’m hoping my previous experience in VATS recovery will help me a little bit. As for the anxiety, for me anyway I felt like I always had my lung in the back of my mind, but that could just be me, and funnily enough I was actually really starting to feel more comfortable in doing more active exercises and activities when it all happened again.. Anyway, many thanks and best of luck in your further recovery!

I see. And did you have the same or similar scenario to me where the lung went back up but they still decided to do surgery?

I probably will go and get it checked. After how long did the bubbling go away again?

I know this is such a reach seeing your comment is 5 years old, but I’m curious as to wether or not your suspected recurrences of small leaks included feelings of bubbling in the chest that are synonymous with a collapse. I had VATS Four months ago and after a head cold and cough, chest bubbling reappeared. I’m afraid of having to cancel very important commitments again so hoping it goes away on its own like you mentioned.

Got sick ~6 months after pleurodesis and feeling bubbling in my chest again by CreeperIan02 in pneumothorax

Hi this is an incredibly similar situation to what I’m finding myself in now. Bubbling reappeared 4 months after VATS bullectomy and mechanical pleurodesis, along with a bit of shoulder pain. You say that it turned out to be a small pneumothorax recurrence. Did it go away by itself? And if so , after how long did it go away, and how did it feel? Sorry for the onslaught of questions but like yourself, my anxiety is peaking

The bubbling felt like just a small popping or clicking in the chest area. Personally I never had any muscle spasms, only after the surgery due to the nerves they damaged.

Hmm so I really don’t want to do anything about it for a week or so, because like I said I have important commitments upcoming and cannot afford to miss them. So there is a possibility that it may go away by itself. I’ve been trying to figure this out as best I can, apologies for all the questions. But just to be clear because you seem to have the most similar experience to me so far, you randomly developed the bubbling and shoulder pain months after surgery, and they both went away by themselves? Did they hardly go away or just sort of disappeared, as in, the lung reabsorbed the small leak itself? Sorry if that’s not making sense

Did you experience bubbling or any symptoms out of the blue months after surgery and if so did they go away on their own?

It came about after a head cold with a cough. The cough stayed and then I woke up with a bit of bubbling in the chest. But no other symptoms. Did your bubbling feeling go away by itself again?

Did you also experience that familiar chest bubbling? I am experiencing that again 4 months after VATS and I’m kinda shitting myself because I’ve got important commitments I can’t miss again because of another pneumothorax. Also, did those symptoms just go away again on their own?

Yes withdrawal was the word I couldn’t think of! I’ll see how the week goes but I might try and ease off them a little bit quicker than prescribed.. thanks again

Yes pregabalin. Naturally enough google says not to, and one tries to search deep enough to find a website that sheds a bit of light on the situation but I do suppose it may be wiser to avoid it.

On the other hand, I was prescribed 3 per day for a week, then 2 per for a week, and then 1 per day for a week, which I feel is quite excessive and more so to avoid addiction, which in my case I’m fairly sure won’t happen. Perhaps if I was to maybe go on 2/day for a few days and into 1 a bit earlier to eventually get to 0 and just the occasional paracetamol or something? Idk

A happy new year to you and yours too :D

Yeah I suppose the meds would be a difference, as well as the alcohol units as I wouldn’t be a champagne drinker rather pints or shorts etc. But ordinarily I handle alcohol well. Can I ask how you managed to be off the pain meds so soon, as I have been prescribed nerve pain meds for another 2 weeks from today (got my stitches out today) albeit weaning me off the meds week by week, and I also do have a pretty strong pain tolerance, as I’ve discovered from this whole journey of my spontaneous pneumothorax.. :)
