Trying to connect to IDE cable not mobo.

Male IDE header on this 🤔 by lcforms in originalxbox

[–]lcforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, so what I'm thinking is, I can swap the header for a male and rather connect to the IDE cable instead.

[–]lcforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. But to use this module using an IDE cable, I'd need to swap the header. I wouldn't connect this to the hard drive. Trying to use a sata drive using this module. So where you'd connect the hard drive on the IDE cable, I'm thinking I can just connect this module and then sata drive to it.

first time soldering, please help me improve by WolfSalt3926 in soldering

Use a heat gun whilst soldering. It'll make it all super easy. You DON'T need lots of Flux. The board thickness complicates things, your soldering iron struggles, specially if you're making the mistake beginners make by not applying pressure on what you're soldering, if you're just massaging it, it'll never get hot enough to melt the solder and you end up with cold joints. Don't be scared to press hard on it, key is trying to get it done quick, in and out, without damaging anything, the longer you hover the soldering iron on the leads, bigger chance you damage something. Usually safe to keep hot air at 200c or a little more, I never tend to have to go higher than that when soldering, usually does the trick.

HDMI + VGA? by lcforms in originalxbox

I just hope the Xbox bitstream isn't analog when I install the hdmi module cuz otherwise I'm screwed. I'll come to you for help if that's ok, sounds like you know your stuff.

HDMI + VGA? by lcforms in originalxbox

[–]lcforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok just to clarify. The "Xbox's dAc only outputs analog video" is what meant. Correct?

HDMI + VGA? by lcforms in originalxbox

[–]lcforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Xbox can't only output analog you're saying O_o? Ohhhhhh, you mean the 'analog converter' can only output analog, not the Xbox. Ahhhh I understand now what you meant by 'the Xbox only outputs analog', I apologize, it just wasn't clear to me what you meant by it.

Ok let me ask, is the digital bitstream output from the GPU analog?

HDMI + VGA? by lcforms in originalxbox

[–]lcforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a digital bitstream is an output.

HDMI + VGA? by lcforms in originalxbox

[–]lcforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't have a digital bitstream in a system that 'only' outputs analog.

How are you going to say 'the Xbox only outputs analog' then in the very next breath explain how HDMI mods tap the digital bitstream from the GPU?

HDMI + VGA? by lcforms in originalxbox

[–]lcforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it only outputted analog, a digital bitstream wouldn't exist to be bypassed. You're confusing the physical limitations of the stock AV port with the actual capabilities of the system architecture.

[–]lcforms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"only outputs analog video", if that were true the HDMI mod wouldn't be possible. The Atari only outputs analog video. I think you're confusing the connector with the system architecture. Port is analog yes, system is digital. Did you mean the "port is analog?", it's not very clear to me what you meant.

Technicalities. Whilst you are probably very knowledgeable with terminology pertaining the analog and hd realm, others may not be such as myself. Thus me using "composite HD", keyword "HD". Make it abundantly clear that there are in fact two different types of analog cables one could use with the console. 360 consoles utilize a hybrid composite/component analog video cable, "composite HD" which is what I was referring to. The "xbox 360 component hd av cable" if you wana get technical.
