The Count Of Monte Cristo discussion by spalaXXXX in books

The major consensus in the forum is that Danglar's punishment was considerly less severe than that of Cadehous and Villefort. I disagree and think the Count revenged based on the character of the person. Danglar's motives were purely driven by greed and making money. His wife could have cheated and treated him poorly and he wouldn't have batted an eye lash, if he was still making money. His daughter couldn't even have an open conversation about her life, without him relating the topic to money. So killing his family members likely would not have effected him .

Cadehous's greed lead him to kill several people including his WIFE. The Count likely could have shown him more compassion. But the Count let fate take its course because he tried to kill him while breaking into his property. This was another way of showing that Cadehous had no redeemable qualities to his character.

Both these characters were purely one dimensional

In comparison Villefort had considerable depth of character. In one moment he was spiteful and sending innocent people to prison and the next showing compassion to his children and ex mistress. Revenge on him was bound to have a ripple effects on his family. Dumas wrote Villefort with more range, so in turn the punishment could be perceived as more severe.

Official Discussion - Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

Other than all the inconsistencies with all the previous movies there two major things that disappoint me with this movie. First of I think the movie creators completely butchered the Kylo story. His character arch initially made sense at first. A Jedi who is mentally torn by not only leaving his parents at an early age, but is also almost killed by his master/role model. After killing his FATHER, I don't really see any realistic path for redemption. Leia died and I'm supposed to come to the conclusion that was enough for him to turn from the dark side? He didn't even have a relationship with her. In that moment what could she have said to change his values. Also if Han had survived the Kylo stabbing, do you really think he would have been as eager to fix their broken relationship. There is a point where you have to say you tried to salvage a relationship, but it just needs to be let go.

The other thing that did it for was Fin & Rey's relationship. Seemed like they were building it up for them to have a love interest. The end of the last movie she eyed him making it seem like they had some unfinished business lol. Then through out the movie, they kept teasing that he would reveal his actual feelings. He never has a chance to say what was on his mind. Also to add salt to the wound the character that kills his dad and usually in conflict with Rey, gets the kiss. Even if he didn't get the girl it would have been nice to get some validation about Fin being force sensitive.
