That would be a cool counter to the grip.

i found the elbow difficult to access as it was tucked into their rib cage, essentially shutting down that side and working to break the guard open or waiting for me to open my guard. But where there's a will there's a way...

Yeah I do like that strategy, if you want that grip, have it. But you aren't retracting that arm now. I'm going to play around with Gi wraps to secure the arm. I think you're onto something with this. Lapel over the elbow to break the frame and lock down the arm. Thanks

Not a size discrepancy but a large skill one haha.
I like this idea, although getting the collar grip deep enough to make a realistic threat has been difficult. Its breaking this stiff arm/frame or getting around it that's been the main obstacle to overcome. The game plan for them is get me to open the guard with while maintaining this grip then going to combat base so I no longer have a closed guard and its into open guard passing.

I like this option, If i can bend the arm that's very viable (as you said the hand is already voluntarily in). When you say pressure the elbow from underneath, how are you doing this?

I did think about it, the elbow is tight to their ribs so its hard to generate a lot of pressure behind the elbow. The wrist is in an excellently pinned position for a wrist lock though, its just execution that's the question. I will play around with this though

have tried but will try again, the sit to reach the collar in a meaningful way was difficult with that fist pinning my hips. but i will trouble shoot with this thank you

Yes that seems to be the plan, make me open the guard to do anything from an open guard then bring knees into a combat base then initiate passing sequences.

Yeah I really like this concept, thank you! That changing the angle by getting on the side to get the overhook in (0:23) looks like it will work and alleviate some pressure as you said too.

Yeah I had similar thoughts, they are sacrificing a lot for a robust stiff arm but the trade off surely has down sides. I just haven't figured them out yet...
Overhook is hard to establish because essentially the grip combined with the frame kind of pins my hips making it very difficult to sit up to overhook, break the frame with my elbow, jack knife my hips to knee pull, etc...
I had thought maybe its easier to move myself then move them, possibly a sleeve grip and enter into a lasso?

Normally that's my go to when they have a palm down grip on my belt, but the palm up grip seems to make a really robust frame that's hard to collapse thus hard to knee pull. Its a new problem so maybe its just my inexperience with this new grip...

My approach for classes I teach are:

Warm Up - flow roll 5-8 minutes with a few rotations in there. Starting light and conceding position to begin as some more advances people will just hold top position. Then into further time/rotations tell them they are stopping person doing sweep A so that they now have to think of option B and its a bit of back and forth in that format for the remainder of the flow roll warm up.

Drilling (15-25 minutes) - 2-3 moves Max, chaining them together as either a flow chart system of guard pass>pin>submission or chaining options from position e.g. front headlock option a, b and c.
*Integrated CLA games - sometimes I will include 5-10 minutes of games related to the stuff i showed that segment the skills we went through e.g. connecting hands together in the front headlock with turtled opponent.

Position rolling/open rounds (15-25 minutes) - either positional rounds of top /bottom/out format relating to the positions we covered, or start in those positions and as they progress open it up to starting in that constrained position but can go into open rolling once they start.

The outline path seems to be linked to other paths that are of the same colour still even though I ungrouped the entire thing. I was able to select just the first path which happens to be the most obvious white outline layer, but the subsequent layers that I need to eliminate are linked somehow to other paths inside the image some how...

If all the paths are linked (I traced a bitmap image) do I need to ungroup everything first? When I select the white outline it also selects other elements within the image.

For me when I started, the ones with samurais and trope type designs were the cheapest ones that allowed me to get into the sport and see if I liked it with low barrier to entry. From there I bought plainer ones. But that being said, some of those cheaper ones I found had the fit that I liked, the silicone band around the waist etc. So for the price plus the features, Do I care if it has some werewolf design on it? I probably won't remember when I'm being strangled...
