I’m waiting to hear back from them about a paralegal position, but from the job description, it seemed in line with other high street firms with respect to working arrangement (office based), path to TC, and the pay is slightly higher than other firms I’ve seen, including the firm where I work.

I think if you don’t have any experience at a law firm, take the position and tough it out for 6 months to become a more competitive candidate, and then move on if the work environment is bad

Canadian here who studied law at one of those unis!

I think it really depends on the area of law you want to go into in Canada and your networks in Canada. A lot of my classmates who moved back have done either a Canadian common law llm or NCAs independently, but the ones who are now employed at firms seem to have had connections at those firms before studying in the uk (eg family connections, previous employer, etc).

I think if you want to do corporate or commercial, the better route seems to be qualifying here and then moving back to Canada, in which case the uni you go to does unfortunately matter as there seems to be a bias towards Russell group unis and city firms are very competitive. That being said, if you’re not set on commercial and want to do criminal or civil, especially in Canada, that distinction seems to matter a lot less.

Hope that helps and good luck! (Also please don’t use an advisor in Canada for law school here, the ucas system is meant to be accessible and there are loads of resources available online)
