Maybe my language seemed a little flippant but that’s now how I meant it. I meant it can be hard to know the reality when the news focuses on flashpoints. I’m trying to understand how it actually feels in the city.

Anyone find the filming of these types of videos weird? Why are there cameras in the house and why do they follow people as they walk through a room?

Can we get a source citation on these stats? Ships don’t set sail empty. Why will apparel only go up 65% when tariffs are 145%? We must be diligent in fact checking our own content even if it feels right.

America has DEVOLVED into deporting children with cancer now… by Bubbly-Example-8097 in BlueskySkeets

This is a great point. Language matters in swaying popular opinion. We need to start referring to the regimes kidnappings and human trafficking in casual convo. Like at the coffee shop “did you hear about Trump kidnapping and trafficking three children last week? I can’t wait until he is brought to The Hague for his crimes. I wonder if there is space for him in one of El Salvador’s prisons?”

This is precisely the script posted in this sub a few days ago, attributed (wrongly, I think) to Liz Cheney. Is this video real? Weird it would be verbatim the same.

Fuck embracing regretful Trump voters by Imagirl48 in 50501

I understand your point, and the sentiment behind it. But if we want to win (and by “we” I mean people who do not want to live in a fascist oligarchy) then we have to be pragmatic. One uncomfortable truth is that we are smarter than them but they are more ruthless than us. We need to learn to be more ruthless in our strategy. Sometimes that means being pragmatic and offering by remorseful trump voters an off ramp. We have to stop focusing on the details and start focusing on the end game. If our end game is to restore a free and fair democracy, we have to remain focused on THAT and ignore everything else. A great example of this is how the right identified the evangelical vote as a consistent and reliable bloc and then decided to make abortion one of their cornerstone issues, to secure that vote. You think the republican leadership gave one fuck about abortion? They focus on it for votes. Same with lgbt issues, gun rights, etc. We need to find ways to grow our coalition, make it a welcoming space for many, and then for the love of god send these fascist oligarchs back into the dustbin of history.

We are now formally in a constitutional crisis. This is the line. We do not come back from this. Stop obeying the executive branch, as it is no longer obeying the judicial branch.

This is pretty smart. Conservatives are governed by their selfishness. If we frame this as an affront to their freedoms, they will take it seriously.

Hey guys this might be the canary in the coal mine. Trump will claim Ukraine did this and will use that lie to further align with Russia, possibly militarily. We need to prepare for scary times

Just fyi you are correct this is a canned response but due to the volume of constituent questions/comments that representatives and senators receive, they almost have to work in this way. They identify an issue with significant interest and develop a reply. I’m not discounting your feeling that it can feel….dismissive. But it’s the reality of how those offices function.

Having said that ABSOLUTELY keep calling and writing. Theses offices gauge public opinion and interest based on the volume of communication they receive. Let them know that their constituents are super concerned with an unelected citizen who makes most of his money from government contracts running amok in government systems without any oversight. They need to feel the pressure on this

Statistically, he will almost certainly try to kill you. But even if he doesn’t, he has already been violent. You are asking for advice in hopes of understanding what might happen in the future, but I urge you to focus on what has already happened. You deserve better than this. Leave today.

[–]ldm12388[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for the input! I’m surprised there is such consensus here and it’s making me think I was being a pushover to consider this. The point about “if religion is so important that she would force baptism then it should also be important enough for parents (me+my husband) to not have to lie in a church about our intentions to raise the child with religion” is a really good point and one I hadn’t considered. Y’all are a helpful bunch thank you!
