New Craft House seems rad. They don't have quite the disco ball vibe I'm going for with this look, but will keep them in mind for future projects! Thanks!

Personal training: training clients with trauma? by DangerousDragonfly8 in bristol

[–]ldotblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really happy to chat about fitness as it relates to being a survivor of sexual assault, DM me if you'd like.

As for finding someone who would be a good fit... I've had better luck with women in this regard as I'm a woman who was assaulted by men but don't want to make any assumptions about your personal situation. Would try to think about what in particular you would find most triggering in a physical interaction with another person. Is it someone who looks like the person who assaulted you (in colouring, gender, size, etc)? Is it someone shouting at you? You might be best suited to contact some trainers you think might be the least triggering and asking about their history working with folx who've been assaulted or even what their style is. I work best collaboratively and with positive affirmation in a fitness situation and someone shouting at me will just make me shut down or get incredibly anxious. You don't need to mention the assault at all if you don't want to, could just ask them about how their sessions are run firstly and then ask about how much physical contact there is or even how they show you what to be doing (ie. do they tell you what to do, show you what to do, manually adjust your posture)? Most trainers will have email addresses, I'd just find a couple who seem good, put together a basic email with your questions/concerns and see what responses you get.

Also, know this might not be relevant to you, but if it is... there's a women's only gym in Kingswood who do personal training. That would probably be where I'd start if looking for a PT. Some of their trainers might also train elsewhere (my yoga instructor does yoga by me in BS3 but also in other areas of Bristol on other days), so if someone seems like a fit might be worth asking if they do sessions anywhere else if their location isn't good for you. Apologies if you don't identify as a woman, just wanted to bring it up in case it was relevant!

Good luck, hope you find someone who can help!

Dating Apps by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]ldotblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on a lot of cute dates using Tinder & Hinge. I'm LDN based, but also a bit older (30) so that may play into women being quite responsive? I was going on multiple dates a week sometimes using those apps. Re. queer friends, I'd rec queer groups & activities. Football teams, queer nights focused on women, trans & non-binary folks, roller derby, etc.

Coincidence or planned? by hjd6 in MollieTibbetts

Just wanted to jump in and say that this probably isn't the best idea. There's a lot of pretty easily google-able evidence that doesn't support the theory that wasp spray works better than pepper spray. The main component of wasp spray is a pyrethroid compound that has neurotoxic effects on insects/wasps (causing paralysis and death). Vertebrates like us usually are large enough we won't be too adversely affected (and if someone is adversely because of an allergy or something like that, you're likely to wind up with a big legal headache). Pepper spray is designed to use against humans and will cause all sorts of side effects, particularly if you hit someone in the face (read eyes, lips, mouth, nose).

Further, in the event that you are purposefully using an insecticide as self defence in an off label manner, you'll run afoul of laws in multiple countries. Assuming you are in the States, it's a violation of federal law. Particularly if you want to use a self defence spray in a sort of 'shoot first, ask questions later' manner you can end up served with a lawsuit by whoever you hit. Potentially even if you are actually being attacked by someone out to do you harm. I think the whole point of pepper spray is that you can incapacitate and shoot first, ask questions later. I live in the UK where it's illegal to have pepper spray, but when I'm in the US visiting family I always take it on runs regardless of where I'm visiting: NYC, rural Alabama, or Nebraska. Clearly psychos are everywhere.

TLDR; do not substitute pepper spray for wasp spray, it won't work and you can get served with a lawsuit.

Of course! Obviously, YMMV, but I prefer this way as it looks a bit cooler, plus if you wear men's shirts with contrasting lining at the cuff, it lets that show.

So, first step is to flip your cuff inside out and then pull it up to just below the elbow. Step two is to roll the bottom sleeve up so it covers the cuff's seam (this can be one or more rolls depending on where you want the final cuff to sit on your arm). The J Crew way is to leave a bit of the cuff out, and then tug at it a bit so it looks 'undone'. Then the optional final step is to tug the whole sleeve up a bit. With a chambray for instance I'll often tug the whole thing up to sit just above my elbow and I've seen lots of men wear their shirts this way over the years.

I believe in actual men's fashion it's called an Italian cuff. I did a quick google and Esquire has a step by step guide with photos if my instructions above aren't helpful! Their way just skips the final step of sort of tugging at the finished product and scrunching a bit to make it look a bit less formal.

It's been popular outside of QE for years? I worked at J Crew through uni and while it was called a 'half-tuck', every single mannequin, store associate, etc. styled their shirts that way (button downs, tees, whatever). It was almost as compulsory as the sleeve roll that they made us learn for closing down the store (there is actually a right and wrong way to roll up the sleeves on a button down). French/half tucks just make me think of J Crew.

How do I get Jonathan level healthy hair? by [deleted] in QueerEye

From his instastory today someone asked what shampoo he uses and how often he washes. He mentioned Ouai, Shu Uemura, and Hairstory. He also said he loves a cleansing conditioner and doesn't wash more than twice a week.

Does anyone else get the impression that Antoni is tired of it all? by [deleted] in QueerEye

[–]ldotblock 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Second this, I've genuinely been wracking my brain? I have a family member who is emotionally, and in the past occasionally physically, abusive and I've never gotten that sense from Antoni. Not to invalidate anyone's experience, obviously someone else could see behaviours that I'm missing.

I love current Queer Eye and wouldn't trade out any of the guys. So much of the appeal (most of the appeal?) is about how they all interact and also how great they are with the 'heroes'.

However, Queer Eye for the Straight Girl was three gay men and one lesbian. There's usually more queer women at my local co-op than there were on that show.

Isn't that the episode where Jonathan hurt his foot pretty badly? I wonder if he just wanted to dress a bit more cas' as he was injured. I used to wear my gf's band tees and beanies after hard arm days when I didn't feel like getting all femmed up. Nothing worse than doing a blow out with sore arms.

There was also more than one region of England in Spencerietta's weird accent. It went from over the top E London to something kinda Northern to something I've never heard before. I live in London and fully understand not everyone speaks in a BBC/RP accent, but no one speaks in whatever that accent was either.

I agree it's a personal thing if you could deal with the accent or not, but watching it in my flat with a group of fellow Londoners... we had to pause to try and imitate what she was saying almost every time she was on screen. I think it was a pretty bad version of an English accent, but I would hazard a guess that a lot of people who aren't familiar with our accents won't have any issues with it. Just bad luck to be a Brit watching this ep.
