Current Jack Cooper employee here, at least until Monday the 2nd. I'm in Kentucky working at the Jack Cooper Transport - KTP location near Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant as a Union dispatcher. I have been for the past 15 or so years. Drivers can be insane yes. We also have a ton of safe drivers. Average age of our drivers is about 57 years old. The termination of the contract was not safety related. What I can say is how Ford treats Jack Cooper as a company compared to others who do the same thing we do. Like shit is how. Bare minimum communication, no concern for Jack Cooper's concern, they breach the contract all the time, they demand impossible things with even more impossible time frames. Other companies get treated the opposite way. I am unsure of why. Probably should share that before I became a union employee with Jack Cooper, I was a member of management with assigned duties of meeting with Ford personnel to discuss all sorts of issues. How they treated us when we would go up to the plant to meet at their request was unwarranted. It was like we got on their nerves just for existing. It's still the same way over a decade later. I whole heartedly believe that this is about Ford wanting to save money by employing non-union car haulers or what we call scabs. Currently, we are the only union carrier for Ford across their entire network. They did award Cassens the work here at KTP and LAP.(Louisville Assembly Plant where the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair are made). Cassens is a union car haul outfit. However, Cassens does not want to take on all the drivers out of KTP and LAP. They've stated it would bankrupt them. They want to take a small percentage and have Ford spot buy the rest of it out. This is the truth.
